I've had the Series S for a few months now and it's been a great console. Load times are waaaaay better than the One X (seriously, why did the One X still use SATA II and mechanical hard drives??).

If you play a lot of large games, need native 4k, or need to use disks, pay the extra $200 for the Series X. Otherwise, the S is a great console.
Game Pass Ultimate is one of the best deals in gaming. The Series S is basically a GPU machine. Perfect for casual play, family play, trying out lots of different games.
The Series S renders in 1440p and upscales to 4k.

I don't understand the S. It looks to be in between current gen and last gen. Why didn't they make the same specs but disc less?

It's for people without 4k screens.

My kid has been waiting for X since November. I'll buy this one. I could always return it if/when X is available to swap for S. Does this fall under 90 days return policy with Costco?
I can tell you that I returned my PS4 when it started sounding like a jet engine 2 years after purchase.

I wouldn't recommend the S though if he has a Xbox One with a lot of physical discs as this doesn't take discs. To each their own though.
