= It's easy to remove the internal SATA drive for use without the USB enclosure
"in a non-destructible way "
= You can remove it without destroying the enclosure, so if you wanted or needed to, you could put it back the way it was and it would be difficult or impossible to tell that you had ever taken it apart
"for NAS or other use"
= Many people take the internal drives from these and put them in a NAS because these are typically good drives and much cheaper than buying the bare drive would be
"using a cut-up gift card or other plastic."
= The enclosure can be removed using anything similar to a plastic gift card, hotel room key, etc. YouTube has a ton of how-to videos for "Shucking" drives
"If you are susceptible to the 3.3v pin problem, it's easy enough to circumvent. "
= Some people (typically with older power supplies or older NAS units) may encounter a problem where the SATA power plug doesn't comply with the newer SATA spec that the drives expect. This is easily worked-around by using a small piece of Kapton tape or using a SATA power extension cable. Google if you need to do this.
"Last time I got essentially an Ultrastar Data Center drive in it."
= Many people get higher end drives inside these Easystore enclosures, the bare drives sometimes would cost 2x to >3x the cost of the Easystore drives.
Easily shuckable in a non-destructible way for NAS or other use using a cut-up gift card or other plastic. If you are susceptible to the 3.3v pin problem, it's easy enough to circumvent. Last time I got essentially an Ultrastar Data Center drive in it.

I bought this easystore 3 weeks ago and received an EDAZ. From what I've read, the only real negative about the EDAZ is that it runs hot because it's not helium filled. I can verify this is true because I scanned mine pre-shuck and it climbed over 60 degrees C before I put a fan on it.
That said, I expect it to run within normal temperature range when placed in a NAS with an exhaust fan.
shucks .top says it was $120 but that was 100 days ago so I guess this is reasonable
still don't understand why these aren't $100 yet, imagine how they'd fly out the door with the mental $99 great deal pricepoint
They were back in 2019 once but you had to buy more than 1 to get that price. Plus they are flying off the shelves at the current price so there is no incentive to go lower.
I keep seeing it commented that the 3.3v pin issue is with older power supplies and nas. My experience is just the opposite. I was using a power supply in my PC that was probably 6 to 8 years old and it was running my shucked drives just fine. I started having rebooting issues that I narrowed down to my power supply so I bought a real expensive Seasonic Platinum power supply and none of the shucked drives would work. I thought maybe it was just a Seasonic issue of not implementing the 3.3v standard in their new power supplies so I got a Super Flower one a couple of months ago and it won't power the shucked drives either.
Same issue with my external drive cases. I have several external drive cases that hold 4 drives. They all work fine in them and a couple of them are usb2 so that shows how old they are. One of the cases I really like had a new version that was usb 3.1 gen2 so I picked it up recently. None of the drives will work in it without doing the tape trick.

How do these fare in performance if hooked as an external drive to a NAS (Synology)? Anyone has tried it?
I don't know about your Synology, but my Qnap model doesn't have the ability to monitor temperature on external drives. I'm sure it could work fine, but there might not be a way to keep an eye on the temps, considering this could be a hot running drive in the factory enclosure.

Would an external SSD be faster than this if they both use the same USB 3.0 port? I wouldn't think so but some other posts online seem to indicate this
