I'll say it again. You can undervolt the processor a good amount: I boosted my 6 core performance 29%, and it runs cooler. You can basically make it as good as a Ryzen (or better) with no risk to hardware. You have total freedom to manipulate power, temperature, and noise to your liking. For instance it runs just as fast at 35W as it did at 45W stock. If I max out the fans and CPU I can run at ~68W and 91C and 4.3MHz on all cores forever.

Undervolting is locked out of most 10th gen CPUs, but MSI allows it. You need to enable it in the bios, and then use Throttlestop. Ryzen processors can't be undervolted.

4th time I've linked in this thread? https://www.techpowerup.com/forum...75.279412/

I'd never done anything like this before. It wasn't hard.

From the tests I saw that's about it. I think one got 14% average and another only 6%. They are both limited to 115W. Wouldn't be worth it to me. Maybe if you are going to mine, the 2070 would pay for itself... don't know about that.
What would be the performance increase be if the card was GTX 3060?

Got the OVERPOWERED 17.3" laptop from Walmart 3 years ago. Having problems now. Have you experienced any problems?

Have you cleaned the laptop to remove dust? Have you opened it yourself? Is it easy? Can one just use a dust buster to clean it out including the fans or is it better done at a geek store?
I opened mine up to clean it up when it wouldn't turn on back in November. Was rather easy in my opinion, but unfortunately, didn't help. In my case, I had no problems with it at all until it didn't start one day. I don't know if I would call it common, but yes, a lot of people have had issues with it. Seems like quite a few started going bad around the 1 1/2, almost 2 year mark, just before warranty term ended.
Anyway, back on topic, this looks like a nice machine. Tempting... just bought a Galaxy Book to hold me over since I can't take this monster + requires cooling pad 2011 Thinkpad that weighs a ton anymore. Probably would have leaped on this, but don't know if maybe prices will fall in the summer.

a) Do you know what issues others had with it?

b) Does the one in this thread require a cooling pad or were you referring to the overpowered? Did the overpowered have a 2 year warranty? If so many credit cards automatically extend the warranty.

15-20%, vs 2060. AT THE SAME POWER! 3060s vary from 60W to 130W max.

For someone who needs to buy a laptop in 1 or 2 weeks, why is the one in this thread the best one at this time. Shouldn't one be looking for a 3060? The Lenovo Legion is around $1,000 ($200 less than this deal) and has it though the screen admittedly is only 15.6" rather than 17.3". Other than the one in this deal, are there any other 17.3" deals? What about the the Gigabyte for $929 after rebate though that has the stepdown RTX 2060 but is a good $300 cheaper. I understand that one is sold out but was it a better deal?

My debate/dilemma was it is going to be my son's laptop and the $99 accidental damage policy beats the others in price. He is bound to bang it up a little. I put a link in the post to the 3 year accident policy. https://www.costco.com/allstate-3...58241.html

Unfortunately, you made it worse:

Here's how I would rephrase it:

Starting 3/10 thru 4/4 at Costco, MSI GE75 Raider Gaming Laptop Notebook Core i7 10750H GeForce RTX 2070, 512GB NVMe SSD 2 year warranty $1199

The fact that this is a Costco laptop right away adds some value with the 90 day returns + 2 year warranty. I have looked at some 3060s, which is definitely going to be overpowered for my needs, but pretty much every one has some kind of limit/debate, like the obvious 15 vs 17". I want a number pad, so that eliminates a lot of laptops. Newegg I've heard can charge restocking even if item doesn't work.

Also, if you need one in the next couple of weeks, it's probably going to be a tight squeeze to get a 3060. IIRC, even some of the other best deals probably aren't shipping for 5 weeks or so.

In the Orginal post body, right at the top, giving credit to ASUNA state:

1. The fact that this is a Costco-sold laptop right away adds value with the 90 day returns + 2 year warranty.
2. 17.3" size ensures there is number pad
3. Is you need one in the next couple of weeks, it's probably going to be a tight squeeze to get a 3060. IIRC, even some of the other best deals probably aren't shipping for 5 weeks or so.

I guess the question is should I just order it? His birthday is Tuesday. I don't like gifts that arrive incredibly late. Its between this and the Asus TUF Dash from Best Buy. $300 warranty though. https://www.bestbuy.com/site/asus...Id=6448933

Since there is zero risk - you can get a price adjustment after the price changes by filling out a form online at COSTCO.com, I would buy NOW. It always makes sense to gift it ASAP. who knows, he may even get it on Tuesday though that would be quite tight?
