I'll say it again. You can undervolt the processor a good amount: I boosted my 6 core performance 29%, and it runs cooler. You can basically make it as good as a Ryzen (or better) with no risk to hardware. You have total freedom to manipulate power, temperature, and noise to your liking. For instance it runs just as fast at 35W as it did at 45W stock. If I max out the fans and CPU I can run at ~68W and 91C and 4.3MHz on all cores forever.

Undervolting is locked out of most 10th gen CPUs, but MSI allows it. You need to enable it in the bios, and then use Throttlestop. Ryzen processors can't be undervolted.

4th time I've linked in this thread? https://www.techpowerup.com/forum...75.279412/

I'd never done anything like this before. It wasn't hard.

The HP costs $200 more than this deal which will cost $1200 on March 10 onwards. Further, HP, despite the brand, is shitty customer service. On that score alone, I would avoid HP.

2070 vs 3060 which one is better.
From another thread:

Quote from Suryasis :
If the RTX 3060 is having at least 100 Watt TDP then going for it against RTX 2070 or 2060 is a better choice. I will avoid any Intel 11th or 10th Gen Gaming laptops at this point, especially the DASH 15 which come with a quad core Intel Tiger Lake CPU and bottleneck the GPU significantly. Check the Gigabyte A5 as well, posted in SD only, by me.

So, what is your current recommendation with the specs you like for a 17.3" laptop? Given your knowledge, would love to hear your opinion.

Also, we would love to hear your comments about the deal in this thread. Is it worth $1200? If not, why not. Any chance that a 17.3" with similar configuration except a 3060 will be available at the same price point in 2 months?

Separately, how much would pay going from 2060 to 2070? Is $100 too much, too little, or about right, assuming all other components are the same.

The MSI has faster response, which is more important than having over 144Hz (when is that useful?). And the performance is faster both GPU and CPU, so I think the ram speed is a moot point. MSI seems to do a good job of pushing the envelope of the hardware with their MaxP laptops. And it's got slots for two m.2 drives as well as a 2.5" drive. I recently bought the 2060 version and it has no trouble cooling with CPU and GPU at max. Another nice feature is that MSI allows you to undervolt and overclock the CPU which is rare since plundervolt. I'm getting 30% better scores in Cinebench after doing this. Dell could have this option too... don't know.

Last but not least, Costco has 90 returns for any reason and a 2 year warranty, or 4 years if you use a Costco card.
So are you advocating for the MSI 17.3" $1100 (RTX 2060) or $1200 (RTX 2070) laptop as the better deal?

(For those waiting for newer laptops, a 17.3" RTX 3060 may cost around $1300+ in comparison when they are available 3 to 6 months from now. Though, there may be other 15.6" laptop deals costing less; 17.3" will usually cost atleast $1200 for something like this.)

The one in the link below goes on sale on 3/12 for $1249 after rebate. How does it compare to the one in this thread. Is the MSI Leopard series build quality better than the Raider or worse?

According to note bookcheck the RTX 2070 has a 15% point performance boost over the RTX 2060

https://www.notebookcheck.net/GeF...598.0.html

Therefore I suggest revision of the title to:
From 3/10 @ Costco MSI GE75 Raider Gaming Notebook Laptop i7 10750H GeForce RTX 2070 ( +15% vs. RTX 2060 ) 512GB NVMe SSD 2 yr wrnty. $1199 ($1139 Chase Freedom Flex cr. card)

Also,
You may wish to note in your original post that Chase Freedom Flex credit card holders get 5X points for purchases on wholesale clubs (including COSTCO.com) until March 31. For a $1199 purchase that's worth $60 cash. So net cost for those card holders is $1199 minus $60 = $ 1,139.

Costco is the best retailer for computers. Walmart is probably #2. Newegg is terrible... and a rebate makes it worse.

3000 series GPUs will typically perform ~15-20% faster at the same power level vs 2000 series. That's another thing you have to dig for... what is the max power on the GPU? Both of these Raiders have 115W GPUs which is the maximum for 2060 or 2070.
According to this site, the 2070 itself is 15% points better than the 2060. So why get the 3060 when the 2070 can get the job done?

Like a few of you, I also own the overpowered 17 Laptop. I use for light gaming (borderlands 3 and some wwz) I use it for Adobe premiere pro and photoshop and sometimes code. Works for me. However the laptop has quality issues. The plastic bezel that holds the lcd has come unglued the rear plastic inserts that go behind the exhaust vents are broken off and I am not all that rough on my electronics. This just happened from being on a backpack. I am considering buying the laptop and have a few questions if anyone would have an answer

1) can I move the 32 gigs of ram from my op laptop to this one ?
2) will this allow me to use two m2 drives and a 2.5 HDd ?
3) are the cpu and graphics going to be a noticeable improvement over what I already have ?
4) is the screen on the msi of decent quality ? The op has a lovely panel.
5) what kind of battery life can I expect with some light YouTube and browsing ?
6) msi laptop has a higher quality control than op ?
7) any other reasons why someone would consider this laptop aside from it being a Costco deal ?
8) could I get a 3060 laptop at around the same price if I waited till end of summer or fall and would that be better ?

Many thanks in advance.
1) Probably. Check specs.
2) Yep.
3) What do you have now?
4) Very good. 300 nits, 3ms response, 1100 contrast, 100% RGB.
5) Maybe 4 hrs. It's got a small battery and the machine isn't designed for low power.
6) Overpowered was generic, so little incentive. But no idea really.
7) SRGB keyboard, great speakers.
8) Probably. A 3060 in the same chassis would perform only slightly better.

That's a 115W 2070 vs a 80-90W 2060. For 2020 the 2060 also comes in a 115W variant. Gaming benchmarks show they are 6-14% apart on average.

A 2070 would be a little slower than a 3060 at the same power.

So how about this?
According to this web site, the RTX 2070 and RTX 3060 offer virtually identical performance with RTX 3060 being just 1% better? Is that a better comparison? Do you agree it is apples-to-apples based on power?
