Cons for practical people
-lights must be on
-mapping accuracy isn't as good as Lidar
-will bump shorter objects instead of totally avoiding them
Cons for people that are "conspiracy theorist"
- I own a deebot (lidar)
and I also have a iot lan and dns monitoring. It 100% tries to "phone home" to China. I don't know why nor care as I know how to block it.
- slam navigation is literally a moving camera in your home with no view finder, calling China and sending them "something"
In conclusion, I wouldn't worry about it, I mean the WORST that can happen is they blackmail you with nudes, and then again who's buying a $120 vacuum worth blackmailing? But then u also get into hacking. Can a local hacker get access to a roaming camera? Probably not.
All this "risk", while low, less than .05%, is it worth getting a a functionally better lidar one from wyze for $80 more. I think so. That being said if I ONLY had $120, I'd buy this. Hell, even a deebot lidar can be found new for $170ish
Look at the deebot 900 series on eBay. Open box can be had for $160. $40 for lidar, same brand and no camera. It still "spies" but they probably all do. It tries to call China 4xs a day but atleast no camera

Wyze- lidar and American can be had for $200

Life- lidar, new, still Chinese but no camera $200

If you're curious, look into pi hole or adguard home, some of the outlets "call" China 6x a day for no reason at all
