Device must be on an active Total Wireless line for 12 full months before it can be unlocked for use on other carriers.
However, this device is compatible with Tracfone, Net10 and Straight Talk without needing to unlock it first.
Can be used as a WiFi only device with no need to activate.
No contract or activation required to purchase or use as a "mini tablet" over WiFi or connected to a different phone's mobile data hotspot.
If you activate the included prepaid card, you are under no obligation to continue paying for service past the initial 30-days of included airtime. It will end automatically on day 31 (you must prepay to continue).
How does this work? Do you share your phone screen with them?
The unlocks used require a physical device like the octoplus. They are designed to run off a computer and directly to the phone via USB.
But These devices can use a remote connect software, like team viewer, in conjunction with a USB pass through software to "mount" your phone remotely and unlock you.
I've used these services at least a dozen times, but you need to be aware that you are letting complete strangers full access to your computer while they do this.
It takes usually 10-20 minutes for the unlock from the time of initial remote connection
It's not going to work on Verizon post paid if that's what you mean.
You won't be able to activate a new SIM on post or pre. But using am already activated SIM should work. At least I've sold other total wireless locked phones to those who had Verizon in the past

can someone who's tried this on VZW postpaid confirm. Wife cracked her screen and this will be a great replacement..
Total wireless service runs off Verizon antennas so a total wireless locked phone will typically work with Verizon without unlocking

I've got a few TF phones, they're my provider of choice. Unless things have recently changed I'm pretty sure you won't be able to use any sim that isn't in the tracfone family (net10, TW, simple mobile etc), regardless of whether it's already active or not. The tracfone sim lock is pretty unforgiving.
But a lot of the time you can use different sims under the tracfone company umbrella interchangeably, if the phones bands support the towers of the new sim.
