It's not about the brand, but their quality/class. My 2012 Lenovo was made from aluminum, not cheapo plastic like nowadays. Dropped and stepped by my kids hundred times. Last year, the monitor screen got removed from it's case, but it's still function well.

Of course this flex may not perform the same built quality as they used to be, neither HP, Dell, Asus, MSI, etc. If you want quality, you need to pay the price. For $600, I don't think you will find well built quality at this spec on any brand.

This IdeaPad Flex 5 is the same as Lenovo IdeaPad 5, Memory soldered to systemboard, no memory slots. It has 16GB soldered to the systemboard.

Also Flex 5 only support one drive, 1x M.2 2280 SSD or 1x M.2 2242 SSD
• M.2 2280 SSD up to 1TB
• M.2 2242 SSD up to 512GB

https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/I...81X20001US

If you want something up-gradable, IdeaPad is not for you.

Pay a bit extra for Lenovo LEGION 5 15.6" Gaming Laptop - Ryzen 5 4600H - GeForce GTX 1650 - 120Hz 1080p at $679.99 which you can upgrade memory and harddrive. May be wait for it to go onsale(?)

Nice specs with a good price. Personally, I won't touch another Lenovo as my last one lasted barely 2 years.

Based on my experience with 2 lenovos in 2 weeks, I think they have quality control issues. First was issue with screen on yoga 9i. Then I got open box c940 that kept shutting down randomly. Maybe I'm just unlucky but thought you should know.

Would it be worth getting the Dell Inspirion 13 7000 2in1 model instead for ~ $300 more?

https://www.dell.com/en-us/member...27306emzph

https://deals.dell.com/en-us/mpp/...etail/7too

Looks like the Dell comes with a stylus, better battery (4-Cell Battery) and better screen (UHD (3840 x 2160)

I have Amex promos I can use. Thanks for the advice!

I think this was a good deal but non-touch screen was a deal breaker for me.

May want to notice the link to the lenovo.com spec said
11ac, 2x2 + BT5.0

But in the Costco product page, it only has BT4.2.

Someone would question if the rest of the spec in lenovo.com page is accurate or not.

If the rest of the spec is accurate, the memory cannot be upgrade but the hard drive, it can support M.2 2280 SSD up to 1TB.

How good is the video card, are the CPU and WiFi/BT cards replaceable, can the RAM be increased w/o swapping, and is there a slot for a second M.2 stick to expand the storage by 1-2TB?

As for no optical, I'm surprised they even bother to spell that out and it suggests that this is a pretty old clearance model. A laptop w/o optical these days is a bit like a new car w/o a cassette player. Can't remember the last time I used a data CD or DVD on a computer.

Btw if you have a Chase Freedom card then try to use that to buy this, as you get 5% off any Costco (or other warehouse) purchases made with it through the end of the month. Try to do it a few days before though as sometimes purchases made in the last few days of a months aren't posted until the following month.

That's $30 saved before tax, or nearly $33 here in NY after you add sales tax. So effective price would be around $619 and change.

I had a Lenovo Flex 5 bought from Amazon a few months ago where the charging port stopped charging so I sent it back. But I'd buy this or another Lenovo from Costco if I needed this laptop just because it's Costco. 90 day return; 4 year total warranty with their Citi card.

Bought an Ideapad Flex 5 from an Amazon deal last year, recently took a dump from a Windows update which corrupted the BIOS, paying $80 to extend the warranty and have an onsite tech visit next week because Lenovo support mentioned it may take a month or more to have it fixed and returned - be warned, the black screen of death has impacted many of their laptops recently.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I have never really paid attention to nits before. Is 250 nits considered good or bad in this context? And generally speaking is there a minimum spec/benchmark I should be looking for in that regard (assuming a good display is important to me)?
