Thinking this is a good deal for existing Verizon users, no? Verizon gift card can be used toward postpaid bills

On Verizon website if you BYOD you get $450 visa card for select Unlimited Plan, but looking at the terms and condition, they reserve the right to charge your card for $450 same amount as the gift card if you cancel within 12 months.

Does it follow the same terms and condition? If it does, it's probably not a good deal.

I asked would they charge me for the gift card if I leave after 3 months? He said, "nah, that's messed up. I never heard that happened to anyone." So I listened to the Costco rep, did the BYOD deal with Verizon. Right when I got to the terms and conditions page for submitting the rebate form...

Receive a $300 Verizon eGift Card when you add a new smartphone line with
your own 4G or 5G smartphone on an unlimited postpaid plan between 2/18/21 -
3/31/21. Customer must submit for redemption within 30 days of activation, and
device must remain activated for 45 consecutive days. May not be combined with
other promotional offers. We reserve the right to charge the amount of the Verizon
eGift Card to your Verizon Wireless account if you cancel service within 12
months or change your price plan from an eligible unlimited plan. Your $300
Verizon eGift Card will be sent via email within 8 weeks after receipt of claim to
the submitted email address.

Well I'm not too sure I can stay 12 months. If I see another good deal, I'm gonna leave. If they do end up charging me $300 before my 12 months is up, oh wells. I'm a bit annoyed they didn't specify the 12 month condition up front.

If you go via Verizon directly, you get $450 gift card (must maintain line for 12 months).

This is very confusing... Verizon is offering $450 and Costco is offering for same 12 Months contract just $300.
Has anyone did this before and cancel the service after 6 Months?

Yes, I did that. I cancelled before the required months was fulfilled and was charged back to my bill the number of lines cancelled x the amount of gift card received. It was a large bill. Nothing I could do to reverse that. If I don't pay, it will go to collection and that is not good for your credit rating. Lesson learned.

I did the Verizon byod last year where the terms were 6 mos (iirc). One of my 5 lines took a while to activate and wasn't on the first bill. I switched to T-Mobile after the 6th billing cycle, and Verizon hit me with a $300 charge to recoup their eGC for the line that was delayed in activating. Took several calls to customer service explaining that I opened all 5 lines together for them to clear out the $300 charge. So just FYI, they may actually come after you for those GCs if you cancel within the stated period.

Thank you. Was your contract mentioned 6 months or 12 months ?

someone mentioned Costco guy is saying keep for 6 months but printed contract says 12 months.

I believe it was 6mos. I remember it was stated in the promo terms themselves when I signed up (I signed up online...no Costco rep)
