the black is actually not that shiny- if you check youtube you'll find both a man and a woman reviewing this jacket. it'll give you some idea what the coloring look like. it's not as bad as people think. i think eddie bauer really did a poor job with product shoot and made everything so shinny.
this jacket is part of Eddie Bauer's First Ascent Line- which is designed for backcountry, snowsport, outdoor, and high altitude pursuit. The colors are chosen for that reason. Unlike The North Face and Colombia which have become more and more became brand recognition , First Ascent Line clothing is still designing its products with outdoor in mind- so while many find the colors horrible or trash-bag looking- they're not really designed for everyday in the town or city. Although they will still be very nice to wear, it's really not designed for regular wear. And for its true designed purpose, its expensive retail pricing reflect that. You would see people wearing Canada Goose or Moncler in town and they have mainstreamed their products to sell more to people with disposable incomes who just want to buy the brands (they're not really that great comparing to other true outdoor brand such as Arcteryx, Mountain Hardwear, and Eddie Bauer.)
While I do not camp or backcountry trek, I would mainly use this for travel, where I would be exposed to different climate (snow one day, hot rainy day next)...with this jacket, and a rain jacket- and with this jacket being so light and packed so small, i would save lots of weight and space in my carry-on.. under 2 lbs and i'll be set even if it gets down to 30F.
while 1000 Fill Down is kinda excessive- usually 800 FIll is already a top-notch in quality and weight, but at this heavily discounted price, i just can't resist to buy it.
if you think this jacket looks like trash bag- you should look at Mountain Hardwear Ghost Whisperer- but it's also one of my fav jacket being so light and comfortable.
this is definitely a great buy, but if you don't use it as a midlayer (having a rain jacket over it), or that you dont use it for travel or outdoor activities, then you might as well save your money and get a down jacket somewhere else- like Uniqlo if you want practical and afforable, or Moncler if you want to bling bling.
The problem is, the vast majority of the weight in these jackets is not the down. As shown above, you're only saving .7oz on the jacket by moving from 800 to 1000 fill power. The rest of the weight is from thinner (and higher quality) shell material, thinner zippers, no hem draw cord, etc.
Honestly the 1000 fill is just a marketing thing. You're really talking tiny weight savings versus 800 or even 700. But overall the jacket is light but still warm, which is good if you want a light jacket. Just keep in mind the weight savings is coming from the shell, zips, and other features.

this jacket was originally $400 and has a lot of down while being very lightweight. this code also works with the women's version, bring it from $340 to $136, which can be found here: https://www.eddiebauer.

or side zippers, again, to reach my cell?
It's the Centennial jacket, so yes.

That's exactly what I thought! I've been looking for a new down puffy and was super excited about this until I saw the black is super shiney and the puke yellow is self explanatory.

I almost pulled the trigger as well given the other positive comments in the previous thread. The shiny black kills it
But also you know that Missy's outfit was.. wait for it .. the bomb.com back in the day.

on a sub-10oz, jacket is not applicable given that it's trying to shave weight and a 2-way zipper adds grams and potential failure points.
In fact, the only jackets I have with them are a MH phantom and Rab Xenon jacket - designed as belay jackets for climbing.
