These can be cut with a bolt cutter within seconds. Please don't lock your expensive bike with this. I would only use a lock like this at home in a backyard/garage to prevent theft grab-and-run opportunities

Depends on how much you want to carry, but I generally just use 2 u-locks. One for the rear wheel and one for the front, both going through the frame, with the rear one also locked to a rack or pole. One lock weighs 2.25lbs and the other is 4lbs. To me, this isn't too heavy to ride with.

These can be cut with a bolt cutter within seconds. Please don't lock your expensive bike with this. I would only use a lock like this at home in a backyard/garage to prevent theft grab-and-run opportunities

What do you recommend for a road bike when I'm gone for about 45 min for lunch? But portable?

It depends. What your bike is worth? How much are you willing to spend? How much weight are you willing to carry? Is the area a high bike theft area like NYC or San Francisco?...... I only use medium and high quality locks as my main lock. Road bikes tend to be expensive so use a high quality u-lock and a cable loop for the front wheel and accessory cable for the seat and helmet.... I would only use a $3 cable combination lock for the front wheel, seat and helmet but a cable loop is smaller, lighter and does the same thing when attached to the u-lock.


I use an ($32.59 new Amazon sale) On-guard Pitbull Mini DT 8008 u-lock with loop cable for my commuter bike. For my more expensive road bike or the rare occasions my expensive mountain bike, I use my ($36.95 new Amazon sale) Kryptonite standard NY u-lock or ($65 new ebay) Kryptonite NY noose chain lock. Expensive and probably over kill for my low theft area but my bikes cost more than the others on the bike rack. I can't ride a cheap junky bike. Wait for a great Kryptonite sale. I would never pay anything close to Kryptonite retail.

Yep exactly this. I had one to lock up something in my old apt, I ended up forgetting the code. Took literally half a second to cut through with cheap bolt cutters, was almost like hot knife through butter.

My insurance only covers my stolen bike if it's been locked up. This won't stop anyone and this satisfies the cute little Gecko's request.

Depends on where you live to be honest. My friend bought a 100+ dollar lock and his bike was taken one day. If you live in NYC nothing is good enough/nowhere is safe
