New to generators. How does this brand compare to Costco firman?
I assume you're referring to the 2000W/1600W that's in this month's coupon book for $350. I don't know about how the brands compare but one notable difference is the peak and running watts. Before you buy one you need to figure out how many watts you need (i.e. what you're going to power). I bought this one a year and a half ago because after adding up the appliances I planned to run (a full-size fridge, chest freezer, and a few small electronics) I determined that the 2000/1600 generators weren't going to provide enough power. If you don't need the extra watts this one provides you can look at the lower output ones that show up on SD for less every so often.

I've only used mine 3 times — once for the initial break-in, a 3-day PG&E "Planned Public Safety" power outage, and a random outage. So while I haven't had any issues with mine I haven't used it enough to speak to the longevity/reliability of this model. My only complaint is that changing the oil is a pain. The spigot is inside the case so to empty the oil you need to be able to pick up the whole unit, which isn't exactly light, to be able to dump the oil. If you try to empty the oil by tilting the unit changes are your going to end up with the oil pouring inside the plastic casing. Although I suspect it's problem with many of these small units with the same design.

Thanks for the info, I'll steer clear of this one.

I bought the AiPower SUA2300i when Sam's had them on sale for $250 (now they're $399). Pretty good little generator, wish I'd purchased 2 at that lower price to run in parallel. Sam's does periodically have some great deals on generators, but it sounds like this Westinghouse is questionable.

As others have mentioned on other threads, one you put gas in a generator, the store apparently won't take it back and you have to deal with the manufacturer, which can either be good or bad.
Base on the test on youtube . The AI2300i can't handle full load well which can not run ac or air compressor . Other generators got the same spec but did start AC or air compressor.
Did you try to run your AI generator at 1800 watts load?

AH is the capacity of a battery.

If a post for a generator shows AH as a spec it would imply that particular generators power source is a rechargeable lithium battery - as opposed to a conventional generator that is powered via fossil-fuel. This generator is fossil fuel. Therefore doesn't show AH as a spec.

There are various advantages/disadvantages to either depending on your situation.

Sorry I'm confused. Which model did you buy? Is it the Westinghouse or the Firman that has this issue with the oil?

I purchased this model a few years back. The first one one faulty and had engine problems. The replacement had a shattered spark plug which littered the bore with shrapnel. The third one failed to start at all. I told the company to send a prepaid box for their generator and send. Me back my money. Good luck to you if you pull the trigger on this.

No I wasn't near the max load on mine. I'll check that video out.

I have the Westinghouse referenced in this deal, not the 2000W/1600W Firman the other poster was asking about. The Westinghouse has the oil drain design issue, but I a DuroMax with essentially the same chassis right before buying this Westinghouse and the DuroMax had the same design where the oil spout is set back a little in the case (it has to be for the cover to close) that makes changing the oil very difficult.

I can't say about either model, but when it comes to electrical engineering, Westinghouse is literally a household name, american company that helped build much of the US Grid, with well over 100 years of history.

Sure things change, so do your research. I have a dual fuel open frame model I am quite happy with. Good luck on your research.

Sam's dual fuel alternatives: Pulsar Model # PG2200B Duel Fuel 2,200-peak Watt/1,800 rated Watts (gas) 2,000-peak Watt/1,600-rated Watt (LPG) $399

and,
A-iPower Model # SUA2000iD Duel Fuel. 2,000 watts starting / 1,600 watts of running power (gasoline) w 1,800 watts of starting power / 1,500 watts running power (LPG) . $449. This is A-iPower's newest model.

Easier to return if you have a problem and only run on propane.

For about the same money at Sam's for the traditional open frame duel fuel 6500/5300 watts and 240V120V. Not inverter Not as portable but better for home back-up.

edit: Thank you @Splendidstar8372 for the correction: Pilsar PG2200bis is the dual fuel model , $499 not $399.

I've had this generator for years and it's worked very well. It started on the first pull when I unboxed it.

Bought it for around $400 at the time.
