I'm pretty sure the gold card they give you is not the same as a regular gold card. My wife has one and she just adds to my points on my platinum account. It also isn't metal like the regular one.

Kind of misleading if you don't accrue points the same as a gold card. Thanks for the info.

The Sapphire Preferred is only a 25% bonus when redeemed for travel. So $1000 only when redeemed for travel using the Chase portal.

The Sapphire Reserve is the one that has a 50% bonus. But that bonus is only worth $600 x 1.5 = $900. And again, that's only if redeemed for travel or using Pay Yourself Back, which is scheduled to stop at the end of April.
if anyone in your family has Sapphire Reserve, you can transfer those points to them, and get 50% redemption rate, I transfer all my chase points to my wife who has Reserve and redeem @ 50% for travel. So yes, I will be getting 80k * 50% = 1200$ travel value

Any charges are purchases. You may have issues with them with things like cash equivalents and gift cards but even those technically are purchases. If you pay your 4000 dollar electric bill, you would meet the spend minimum.

Gift card purchases wont coint towards 4k?

Gift cards do count. Chase doesn't care about GC purchases. AMEX does.

So I apply in the branch with an agent in one of their cubicles and automatically get the AF waived, the 80k points, and the $50 grocery credit? Am I missing anything else? Any referrals?

For the 1000 in airline points. Can those be used for international travel and on what airline or can they be cashed out for the same amount?

Someone answer please.

However you can get up to $1600 of value by transferring to other travel partners.

AFAIK you can't upgrade the CSP to the CSR until you've had the new CSP for 1 year.

(it is chases reading of the CARD act that it's not legal for them to switch you to anything that raises the annual fee in the first 12 months).

If you upgrade after that you'd get the $300 credit in your 2nd membership year... but you'd have to be without a CSR (and all the other benefits of it) for that year.

This is a little easier if you have a Player 2, since one of you can continue to hold your CSR during the 1 year wait the other is going through on holding the CSP.

Do you know if i cancel my reserve but still have freedom flex in the same account, I would still be eligible for bonus point 48 months after cancelling my reserve?
