The other week I tried to buy a fridge at Lowe's. Card declined. So I call the number on the back and got directed to their fraud department which was not open. I called around 7:30 pm pacific time on a Thursday.

First time in my life encountering a card that didn't have a REAL 24hr line. Had to wait till the next day to get my card unblocked and try the purchase again.

Needless to say, I am not going to keep the card after a year. Not being able to reach a person is unacceptable in 2021.

I don't have this exact card, but I have another chase related card. Usually I get a text, email, and app notification when fraud is detected. I click yes/agree on any of the 3, and I'm good to re-use it instantly.

Do you have any of those set up? I've never needed to call their number to un-block a fraud detection charge.

My card hasn't arrived but I was able to set it up in Apple Pay. If I pay with the Sapphire via Apple Pay, does it still count as a purchase towards the $4k limit?

It should count. What you can do is test it out by making a purchase using Apple Pay, then check the meter in your Chase account that shows your spend requirement progress.

FWIW the person you're replying to wasn't complaining about fraud activity on their card. They were complaining about not being able to use their credit card, then being routed to the fraud department when they called Chase, but it was closed when they called.
Edit: I see what you're saying now, and how it would've helped that person when they tried to use their card. Good tip!

I always laugh at the fraud angle:

CC: "Here's an awesome offer so that you spend tons of money on our card!"
Me: spends money
CC: "WHOAAAAA WHY ARE YOU SPENDING MONEY, ARE YOU SURE YOU ACTUALLY DID THAT?!???!??!?"

Having trouble with my card. I received my card last week and now I am not able to use. Called Chase customer service and they are not even able to look up the issue as some other department called "review team" is working on and will contact me in 1-2 business days.....!!!

I think you misunderstood something. The reason the person couldn't use the card was because Chase blocked the Lowes transaction suspecting it could be fraud. So that's why he was routed to the fraud department to clear the block. But it was closed as he indicated.

The helpful post you responded to was letting the the guy know that you can clear a fraud block yourself without having to speak to someone at Chase. You just have to set up text alerts and then a simple YES/NO SMS response when a fraud alert is triggered will immediately clear the block so you can proceed with your transaction.

Edit: just saw your edit Big Grin

Does 48 month rule apply to date card was opened or date points were awarded?
