Looks like a good deal, but it's missing a nice santoku knife for medium sized items. I would get the 8 piece if it were still in stock. Thanks for the deal though!

I bought a similar set of four star knives from Macy's and they've been in near perfect shape for over a decade now. Definitely worth the investment.

I got a henkles block set from Costco. I like the knives, but they started rusting really quick. Honestly I should just return them, but another set would be just as bad I'm sure.

The self sharpening block is decent enough to cut most things easily. Meat cuts pretty well into cubes and I can get a above average tomato slice.

Use a bread knife to cut tomatos. Can find one by googling bread knife serious eats

Your set might have been high carbon stainless steel. They still require maintenance like hand washing and drying them immediately after use to prevent rusting. Probably not dishwasher safe either.

The set you got from Costco probably had the "single man" logo = made in China not so good. The "two man" logo = higher quality and usually made in Germany. Not the same thing as found in Costco. I have made that mistake before too.
