Just got a deal alert for this at Newegg for $139, so I checked Amazon for comparison and noticed it's even cheaper there a cheaper but different drive there (per that OP it's a different model of the drive, see first comment below for details).

The two drives are different; the one I posted (https://www.newegg.com/seagate-ir...-_-Product) is the 7200 speed drive; the Amazon drive OP posted is the 5400 speed. Both good deals, but not the same (which means Amazon has a cheaper drive, but not the same drive cheaper).

They had this same discussion when the Newegg deal was posted earlier this month.

Gotcha, thanks for the info. Totally not confusing at all when manufacturers do this kinda stuff...

Ironwolf NAS is the only Seagate worth buying.

All others are still junk.

Aren't these the same drives used in Seagate's external HDDs? It should be cheaper to get those and shuck them vs buying them stand-alone, something like $16.25 to $17/tb vs $22.50 IIRC, and there's a deal right now for a 10tb drive for $170.

Careful. The 7200rpm IronWolf 6TB may have a inherent problem and a reason why Seagate discontinued the 7200RPM 6TB and are now doing lower RPM only for that model.

I had purchased the 7200RPM 6TB at $130 from Adorama via Amazon just before they started charging sales tax. That drive just started to lose sectors by the day.

My research documented here
https://slickdeals.net/f/14899768-4tb-wd-red-plus-nas-5400-rpm-3-5-internal-hard-drive-90-free-shipping?v=1&p=146053057#post146053057
suggests that this is not an isolated incidence and that the 7200rpm version is not a mechanically stable platform.

The 5600rpm should be fine but the performance numbers from the reviews for the earlier model may not apply to this one.

How do these compare to the WD Red Pros? I only use those, but ever since WD rolled out the Red Plus drives, they've stopped discounting the Pro drives. So thinking about grabbing one of these for a NAS backup.
