I mean...I'm right there with ya, most of the time info can easily be accessed via the Googler, but at the same time, that could be some 80-year-old man asking the question who is easily overwhelmed by the amount of info a simple Google search can yield.
So, typing something simple like, "is VR required?" Then sliding your phone in your pocket and carrying about with your business until you receive a reply.... WAY faster than google searching, clicking a link, reading the webpage you opened, potentially not receiving the answer to your question, clicking the back button, finding another link to a webpage, clicking...
See?!
But technically, I don't see why it could NOT be played without a VR headset. I was actually wondering if maybe they made an update that allowed regular play. Perhaps someone knows a workaround..who knows? The amount of time it took the OP to write a scathing reply to a simple question is the more eyebrow raising action

Is anyone else experiencing a problem like this? I don't have a PS5 or PSVR, and I assume Astro's Playroom is always free, so I should probably not even worry about adding it now. However, you never know when Sony will start charging for something that was free.
As another note on how much you can trust Sony, I assume everyone here has heard that starting on July 2nd Sony is shutting down all PS3 digital games? I haven't done a deep investigation yet if they are just shutting down purchases of PS3 games or if you won't be able to (re)download PS3 digital games after July 2nd. If it's the latter, I've got a lot of work to do to load up my existing PS3 consoles with all the games I bought... and hope none of my HDs ever die since Sony makes it so you can't make backups (whereas Xbox does allow that).
