It's just so old... I guess it wouldn't be bad for a light user.
A light user would need and want something bright and I think this only uses the screen's brightness. I believe I can speak for all light users when I say, darkness cannot drive out darkness, only light can do that.
Either way, I'm sure it could be used for other things too and most light users have multiple flashlights anyway.

Honestly, I don't see enough improvements from the 3 to justify the cost difference to the additional versions. However, this is the price that has been around for quite sometime for the 38mm series 3.
I currently have a Series 3 and would not recommend anyone get a new one at this point in time, even at this price.
The watch is just unable of accepting any software updates unless it is fully reset due to lack of storage space.
I purchased mine before the SE came out and made the decision to save the $200 price different vs the Series 4 (which was out at the time).
I would echo the same. The 3 is simply too old and non-functional to get really anything out of it.
The SE can be had brand new for another $90 and you're guaranteed to at least get another two years of use out of it vs. buying this. To me, that's well worth the higher starting price as you won't have to replace it until later. With the 3, you're going to be buying another one much sooner.

I have the 3. What exactly am I missing? How is the SE more functional?

Larger Retina display, faster chip, better speaker, 4x storage, more accurate Health tracking, quite a bit really.
If you already have a 3 and it's working fine for you, no need to buy something new unless you really want to. If you're trying to get into the Apple Watch market, the SE is a much better product for only a few bucks more that you'll get a longer lifespan out of.

Are there any plans to stop making these look like child's toys?
Samsung and Huawei just look so much better.
Don't think so. Apple watch has a 50% market share, is well liked/reviewed, and the users love the rectangular face from readability perspective. Apple can sell these watch variants at prices upwards of $1k. So I don't think Apple has any desire to change something significant like the shape of the watch and risk losing buyers.
I see. Who is this watch really for? Someone who just want a basic fitness tracker and listen to music via itunes on the go?
Technically, this describes me. My only use case for an Apple Watch would be to sign up for Fitness+ and hopefully listen to podcasts while leaving my phone at home (is this doable without the cellular version?)
I am a techie but I still prefer nice automatic watches versus a smartwatch. Has anyone here felt the same and became a convert?

Honestly this is for people who just wants the basic with ease of use. I work in the hospital and use my 3 series to glance at text msgs and count my steps. It's too laggy to even update or load music (nightmare).

Is it really that bad as far as storing music to the watch? ☹️
