I went to Hamer Toyota and they had balls to mark those up 3k plus 1k gps add-on. Came to $56.5k with no negotiation because stimulus money is here and dealers wants it all. Sad state

Hydrogen Fuel cell is exempt from CA rebate income limits.

"The income cap applies for all eligible vehicle types except fuel-cell electric vehicles."

OK, you lost credibility with me when you calculate the total cost of the car minus "tax credits". Makes it seem like a scam. If you know anything about these credits, you know that you DON'T get all of that money back on taxes. You get the amount of tax money back one would get if you made 8K less than you actually made. ie... if you made 58K in 2020 and get around $1600 back on your return. WITH this 8k tax credit, it would be like making 50K and getting about $1800 to $2000 back on your taxes. You do not get 8K back.....
lol ... Sounds like someone needs to google "tax credit vs tax deduction"

You are mistaken in terms of it lowering your taxable income... the way it works is if you owe over 8k in taxes you would get the fulll 8k or 7500 tax credit from the feds. If you owed 5K in taxes you would only get a Credit of 5k.

That's not how I'm reading it.

Let's say you're a W-2 employee making $100k at a simple 20% federal tax rate. Throughout the course of the year, exactly $20k is deducted from your pay checks and sent to the IRS, right? Fast forward to next tax season and YOU GET $8k BACK, in addition to whatever refund you'd be getting anyway.

Keep an eye on the H2 stations around you before you pull the trigger. They go offline often due to supply issues.

I just bought a 2021 Prius Prime for $17727 after tax and all rebates. Rather drive this than a Mirai.

From my previous experience, these work just like the federal solar tax credits. As long as you pay more than $8000 in taxes a year you should get the full amount back as a credit to your taxes.
Everyone's tax situation is different so I suggest it's best to consult your CPA before purchase.

The catch: in 10 years, you wont find hydrogen fuel station anywhere, no one can fix this except toyota if it has mechanical problem, the car will be worth 10% of price you pay tobecause dealerships dont know what to do with it. Or it becomes a collector item
At this price you're optioning this off after about 5 years and letting someone else deal with that...while you drove a cheap car

I'm buying stock in this and betamax
Well at least the Toyota stock will be ok. You can keep Sony.

That said, both are very good technologies that failed and lost ground to lesser tech.
Please no EV vs Fuel cell debate. Both are good and each has is pros and cons.
Like betamax and vhs, at some point both will be replaced by better tech some time in the future. No idea what it will be but it's inevitable.

Only if you paid 8K in federal taxes. If you made 600K/yr and somehow did not pay $0.01 in taxes, then no you won't get anything. But if you paid 8K or more in taxes, you'll get 8K back. If you paid 5K?, you get 5K back.

I mean the biggest draw for me to EV is that I can charge at night at home. You don't have to go out of your way to a gas station, or way out of your way for a hydrogen station.

If you live/work literally next door to an existing station maybe? But if the closest station is even five minutes out of the way I don't see a great reason to go this route.

the catch is hydrogen is not catching on and you can't fill up anywhere. I was waiting and waiting for one of the "planned" hydrogen stations to open near me and eventually gave up this year and bought a plugin hybrid instead.
Toyota took much time to get Hydrogen Fuel car to market. It might not even take off because of EVs.
