I went to Hamer Toyota and they had balls to mark those up 3k plus 1k gps add-on. Came to $56.5k with no negotiation because stimulus money is here and dealers wants it all. Sad state

Hydrogen Fuel cell is exempt from CA rebate income limits.

"The income cap applies for all eligible vehicle types except fuel-cell electric vehicles."

Electric is the future. Chargeable at home. Perfect for commutes and up to average distance road trips. Incredible acceleration, low maintenance. The country just needs to invest in the infrastructure such as induction charging for street parking spots. Already, places in the Scandinavian countries have chargers attached to every parking meter.

Instead of giving a $1.9T handout, we should have spent it on upgrading our country's outdated infrastructure.

That's fair. No place is perfect though. I think you make a lot of compromises living in CA, whether that is cost of housing or time spent in the car or dealing with any of the political issues you mentioned. Kind of up to everyone to figure out what is the best balance in their life. Everything is pretty dynamic.
how is cost of housing a compromise if you already bought? market is booming. traffic hasn't been nearly as bad in some time around SF Bay with al the WFH. I spend very little time in car.

hydrogen car is the most stupid idea ever, period. guess how is hydrogen produced? electricity. guess what is needed to convert hydrogen back to electricity? extremely expensive catalyst like platinum, and during this round trip you lose 50% energy, and gets very limited power.

this thing could exist only thanks to all those stupid government funding, which is the tax you pay. IMO government should never be allowed to waste our tax money like this, I'd rather let market decide everything.

This is why stupid CA charge such high tax and yet still has budget deficit. We got too much government at every level.
California does not have a budget deficit. California had a budget surplus. Government isn't funding the production of hydrogen vehicles in Japan like the Mirai. The State of California and other states, as well as the Feds, provide incentives to consumers to use clean vehicles. The market can decide if it wants to avail itself of those incentives or not.

that's true but look how long it took to get electric chargers everywhere and how long it has been with hardly any expansion of hydrogen stations. Very big difference
Shell is supposed to build 70 new hydrogen stations in California. I am unsure of the timeframe.

who do you think pays for the incentive?
you do understand there is fed incentive, plus state incentive, right?
also construction of those hydrogen bomb stations are heavily "incentivised" on your tax money too.

Leaving Ca. because of unavailable fuel? Umm, no. We are heavily taxed (no 1), housing prices through the roof, bad traffic, high gas and electric prices, fees, more fees, big government. It's why many large companies have left with more leaving. We have not had a company of size build a plant here in many years due to excessive regulation and employee costs. For the first time in many decades, rents and business leases are dropping in SF, but rising in Oakland/East Bay. We are the no 1 welfare State and growing larger. I was born/raised here decades ago and we are a former shell of our self. Newsom is facing a recall in a heavily Democrat State and that's telling that people are pissed what these morons are doing to our once golden state. I was in downtown SF last week on business and holy wow, the homeless are camped out and the damn city can't supply porta potties? They are governed by a far left mayor who ignores the problems. We have the most beautiful State I've seen (including Hawaii, but have not been to AK) and that's a shame to have to leave because of pee poor govt. leaders.
Re leaving: HP left (Sears Roebuck of tech), Tesla expanding & Oracle changing a nameplate. Newsom will never be recalled, too many gotchas in that process. Per capita welfare recipients, CA is not even in the 10 of welfare states. CA is #32 in state federal dependency ranking. Electric prices are high, to the point it warrants pv. Taxes are high. Home prices are great for the HO, esp if you grew up here. Net ~100k leaving is statistically insignificant. Most people merely moving around the state.

Shows how much you know. There's plenty of electricity at night when usage is way down but the wind still blows, water still flows, nat gas still burns, etc.
The issue is on hot days when every business and many houses have their AC on, which uses a lot of electricity.
Haha. Good one

I own one. Definitely the wrong forum to post this in even though it is truly a slick deal.

The media/Tesla have unfortunately shaped the consensus that fuel cells are have no future and thus, infrastructure has been slow to expand, funding may dry up and go directly to BEV related componentry and of course, sales will continue to slow down.
I think it's the other way around. A technology without infrastructure is vaporware, thus is the case with fuel cell. Tesla has always valued its infrastructure and has an advantage by being different. My nephew says "oh look it's a Tesla", but I doubt he'd be impressed by a Toyota Mirai.

Let's not forget that electric is the superior technology, for a multitude of reasons.

There are lots of horror stories of people moving away from CA due to work and being unable to offload their hydrogen car or get out of their lease without losing tons of money.

There have been several "hydropocalypses" in the past year and depending on where you live, you have to wait in long lines to get fuel or go out of your way to get fuel.

Toyota has been very supportive with accommodating people, but it hasn't been smooth. Decide if the cognitive burden of figuring out how / when to get fuel is worth it to you.
what's the trade in value at toyota dealerships? would also qualify for their loyalty incentives right?

I believe I said the states and Fed offer incentives. So it is clear I understand who is providing incentives. All sorts of things are supported by government from having children to large corporations. US government is not giving US tax dollars to Toyota to build the Mirai. Toyota has to meet carbon guidelines and has chosen hydrogen as a means to meet requirements. Hydrogen is used in Japan for vehicles. Those bomb stations will probably fuel long haul trucks too.

Nikola is building a hydrogen corridor from Phoenix to LA, which will have filling stations all along the way, so eventually you will be able to take a road trip. Not sure if hydrogen will ever be widely accepted, but I sure hope so since it is the most environmentally friendly and truly renewable.
Sure they are.
