Microsoft Office on the web is available for free.
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/m...or-the-web

Also, (and I just KNOW people will thread crap this) Windows Security Anti Virus is included in Windows.
I've been using it for quite some time and, in my opinion, works about as well as anything else.

There's also Libre Office, which I've used for years without any issues.

These are usually not legit and the listings get taken down by eBay quickly and sellers banned. Eventually the keys get blocked on Microsoft as well. Be wary.

i don't think you can get a permanent key anymore. since they rolled out subscription plans last year i have not seen permanent keys offered. when checking my employer discount page and my son's school all were subscription plans. i rather have a permanent key vs a subscription plan where they are auto charging your card yearly. 2019 i believe was the last of the permanent keys.

Just bought this. It's a good deal getting Office 2019 Home for $75.

I can see that the Office 365 subscription has it's advantages, but for me the on-time purchase of Office Home works out better.

Do they make you install the antivirus software? Or can you simply choose to install office?

cheapest and legit way to get office, if applicable, is through your employer/university. most if not all schools are part of microsoft's home use program. lots of larger businesses and gov jobs also have access to it. i think i paid 10 or 15 for office.

beat me to it - they used to provide physical disks which was great but now it's dl's

it's a no brainer like 20 bucks if I recall

I purchased it a couple years ago for $10.
Unfortunately, the Home Use Program no longer provides perpetual licenses and is subscription only nowadays.

The ONLY good reason to get Microsoft Office is Outlook. Without Outlook, you might as well use freeware like LibreOffice. Another reason is possibly if you want to learn Excel to get a job. If you already have a job, you probably already have MS Office and there's NO good reason to buy this.

I would buy this if I actually "own" the software, but I don't. Office phones home and ties itself to one computer.

Pass. Get the Pro. Access is crucial.
What's a good usecase for Access? Cataloging personal stuff?

Always seemed like a hassle to me in a work setting, I'd rather just write a quick frontend and hook it onto mysql/postgres/etc. But that might be because I'm used to working in places with an it shop.

I've never used them. My perspective is that if it sounds too good to be true, it usually is. These sites are usually reselling OEM or volume license keys which are not meant for resale to consumers. At minimum it's unethical--if that's not a problem for you that's fine--no judgement. At worst you run the risk of the keys being deactivated by Microsoft--maybe they won't, or maybe they will and you'll be out the money. Guaranteed the entity that sold it to you will not help you. You pays your money and you takes your chances

I tried finding a review for these sites and came up empty. Can you point me in the right direction?

I know some of these sites give you a kind of backdoor into Office that requires a bit of shinanigins. Just want to make sure that these sites don't do that.

No, you do not have to install the antivirus software. You will get a key for it though. I got two separate emails after buying, one for Office and the other for Norton. I doubt I will install Norton since it is a subscription renewal service.

WARNING: The one-time purchase versions of office (anything not office 365) DOES NOT GET A FREE UPGRADE when Office 2021 launches later this year!!!

The subscription based Office 365 is constantly updated to the latest version.

Legal Office Pro 2019 often $80~ ebay sealed, but again like above, Office 2021 coming....

..

...

Most of the other office keys cheap (under $40), good luck. Shady, most not legal per terms, and will work until ms finds out and pulls them.

(But if you're gonna go shady, might as well go fully illegal free...? Why even pay?)
