I've had the blue one for about a month or so and I like it very much. The track pad is garbage, otherwise I don't have much to complain about. Oh, the power button is where "delete" goes so expect to punk yourself a few times.

I like the feel of it, the metal feeling lid helps it not feel super cheap.

I use it for prepping 3d models for my printer, and it's very good at what I ask it to do.

BTW it does charge via USB c despite it saying data only.

i like to keep this or my Samsung s7+, i paid pretty much same price for the S7+ few days ago, no hard core computing just web surfing, killing time at work and some zoom meetings. cant decide which one to keep, any suggestions?
that's totally up to you and how/where you would use these devices. the s7+ has portability and android ecosystem to its advantage; the laptop has productivity/screen size to its advantage. these are two quite different devices with different pros/cons.

You're assuming another device with a functional DVD drive. S/he can't rip a DVD to a USB stick if the laptop has no DVD drive.

Plus, ripping is a time-consuming process. 100's of DVDs could easily turn into weeks of ripping.
Yeah that's the thing. I paid for those DVDs and own them, so I'm not really interested in skirting legalities or putting in additional time into ripping. I also find the whole externalization of secondary hard drives and optical drives to actually be more inconvenient. It seems the whole market is focused on making things thin as possible. I actually prefer laptops from 3-4 years ago which were fatter and usually allowed you to add two more SSDs and had an optical drive too. Now, you almost can't find an optical drive built-in even on the high-end stuff.

That has everything to do with the build of the laptop (or desktop, as in the motherboard heatsink and connectors, the fans, the case, and the contribution of other components all together) and little to nothing to do with the cpu itself if you are in a given year (given Intel or AMD generation say) and need a given level of computing power (clock speed x cores say). If you recall the processor that you experienced overheating with, check it out on a power benchmark chart like Passmark's [cpubenchmark.net] and compare it to the Intel processors of the same class and year; you can click on the processor name itself to find the watts used, but it's a rather meaningless indicator of whether your computer will feel hot since a properly designed laptop in a minimally ventilated environment will keep any mobile processor under 100F. Of course "properly designed" may come at a premium cost, but that's yet another tradeoff you have to make.

Acer, which acquired Gateway in 2007, is bringing back the brand to sell consumer-focused laptops in the US. The products will be sold exclusively through Walmart.

Shenzhen Bmorn Technology. Same company that made the EVOO line. Acer owns the name "gateway" and get paid royalties by that company. They rebranded from EVOO as they shit the bed pretty bad with that brand name.

Thank you OP. Tried to give you reps but was rejected for some reason. Does anyone know if it has an Ethernet post.
Also I tried searching for Manufacturer website to see the specs/manual but wasn't able to find it. If anyone has a link would love to see it.

TIA

Any suggestions on a 15.6" laptop with built-in optical drive?
Really hard to find one of these nowadays.
Have a library of 100s of DVDs that I still like the convenience of just sliding in and watching on laptop.
Buy a slim DVD drive for about 20. Leave it in the bag until you use it. The DVD drive on the laptop will make the laptop larger, cost more, and have less room for other goodies (battery, memory, heat sink, drives, speakers).

You bought a P4? Man, you got ripped off ...
Well, That was with 27 monitor, speakers and printer. Now, i got the printer money via rebate. But i needed it at that time and it was ok deal compare of what we get today.
Looks at the SSD prices.. In 2012, I brought one of Crucial ssd from Tiger direct, Paid $179.99 for 128GB and that was after those crappy TD rebates.laugh out loud

I got this from eBay [ebay.com]... It's less than $5... a similar purchase has been working fine for over a year, plus it has extra functionality with the USB hub.
