I've had the blue one for about a month or so and I like it very much. The track pad is garbage, otherwise I don't have much to complain about. Oh, the power button is where "delete" goes so expect to punk yourself a few times.

I like the feel of it, the metal feeling lid helps it not feel super cheap.

I use it for prepping 3d models for my printer, and it's very good at what I ask it to do.

BTW it does charge via USB c despite it saying data only.

Is there anyway to get video output to 4k? This was one of my big reasons for getting it as I stream to my tv and my old laptop is starting to have graphical issues
Any modern laptop supports at least HDMI 1.4, which can output 4k at 30 Hz. The only way to test if it supports HDMI 2.x for 60 Hz is by actually connecting it to a 4k 60 Hz display, from what I've gathered. No reviews I've seen have checked that and no specs have listed explicitly its support. Reviews have explicitly said it does not support DisplayPort. Both can be output from the USB-C port with a proper adapter, however.

Might have had to get one if it had an Ethernet port like the Motile's did... but I'll just have to resist... still tempting though.

Memory is soldered, there's a second m2 slot that you can access without removing the entire back.

Any questions on the hardware side I can likely answer, I put linux on mine already so I can't answer anything about how it works in windows.
Can you post the included SSD model number?

You can check YouTube for videos with the Vega 8 Graphics and you'll see it can play those games, albeit mostly not at max settings. You should be able to get 60fps on almost any esports title at low settings though. I'm buying this so I can play on my WoW private server, Diablo II Resurrected, Mount & Blade Warband, and Grim Dawn. Don't expect even games like Grim Dawn to run at full speed and max settings. Emulation is generally CPU bound for anything older than PS3/WiiU era, so I'd expect pretty good performance here from Dolphin and older emulators too. I'll be getting mine on Wednesday and will try to remember to post a follow up after I test some emulators and last gen games like the ones mentioned above.

What I linked says pretty explicitly that Intel fixed the issue both in software (eventually with minimal performance loss to that generation's processors) and hardware. "On 8 October 2018, Intel is reported to have added hardware and firmware mitigations regarding Spectre and Meltdown vulnerabilities to its latest processors.[13]"

You have not really linked anything suggesting otherwise past 2018, so let me understand what you are trying to assert: that for the processors released over a year after Intel released their final software fixes for Meltdown, that the benchmarks run independently on these processors (again, over a year after the final fixes) should be adjusted by some percentage (30% you claim) because of one benchmark reported in 2018 (again, over a year prior to the release of the processor, the bugfix, and the benchmark being run) in one of the first bugfix releases?
I made a reference to specific issue with Intel Architecture because it is relevant in the way new CPU are based of the previous generation architecture. Yes some improvements and fixes are made but the underlying architecture has issues.

All I can see is that Intel has addressed some issues and some still remain and new ones are being discovered. The issues addressed through microcode have performance impact.

Here is something more recent, while not exhaustive test this article shows performance degradation for Ice Lake CPU when software mitigations are on https://www.phoronix.com/scan.php...ions&num=4

Another example of the Intel architecture putting at risk features like hyperthreading.

Intel chips are plagued with issues that end up affecting performance but you're claiming that everything is fixed and I should not be concerned.

Spectre affects AMD too [phoronix.com] (and virtually every other modern processor). Discussion of results [reddit.com].

SMT is in AMD too. How about a sane discussion about SMT and security [thesai.org] before you go axing performance for marginal security increases for home users. Do your part to fight superstition in IT.

are you sure this model support alt-dp through USB C? Do not see alt-dp logo on the next to USB C port from the pictures

I am 99% sure it does not. By "proper adapter" I meant an active adapter, which is effectively a mini external video card.

How does Linux run on this? I've considered getting one of the Gateways for use with PopOS. Have you encountered any compatibility issues along the way?

Can anyone tell me if this is better than the Motile laptop that walmart sold for 299 a couple of months back. It seems pretty similar but if this one is better then I might buy it. Thanks
I bought the Motile 14" Ryzen 5 laptop, then gave it to my niece. She broke it and I sent it away to the El Segundo, California repair facility where they replaced the SSD drive. I paid the $36 UPS shipping cost there, they sent it back on their dime. The repair fixed it up. The $300 pricetag you menton was only good for about a week in January 2020. The earlier $400 price (I thnk) could have included a free mouse and carry case. 14" seems much smaller than this 15.6" Gateway. Gatway is pushing OneDrive on this unit. The audio on the Gateway sems a little weak. I have it hooked to a mini-soundbar, which worked fine once I made sure the plug was firmly seated in the audio jack. The Bluetooth audio wasn't cutting it for me, there seemed to be an audio lag playing XviD files with VLC.
Just my impression, but I think the display on the Gateway is a little better than the Motile but the Motile had a nicer metal case. But you can't get that unit anymore.
