I've had the blue one for about a month or so and I like it very much. The track pad is garbage, otherwise I don't have much to complain about. Oh, the power button is where "delete" goes so expect to punk yourself a few times.

I like the feel of it, the metal feeling lid helps it not feel super cheap.

I use it for prepping 3d models for my printer, and it's very good at what I ask it to do.

BTW it does charge via USB c despite it saying data only.

Just FYI, USB C charging is NOT supported on this device. I've tried with multiple chargers that for sure support the 90w profile.

I really have to sit next to the laptop with door closed in my small office to hear audio, is it just mine? anyway to increase the volume in the system? no USB C charging but everything else is great

Ours is the same. The speakers are surprisingly weak but I figure they had to cut corners somewhere. At least it's got a 3.5mm audio/headphone plug.

EDIT

After re-reading your post I'm convinced you may have another issue. The speakers are fairly weak for sure but they're plenty loud for my wife to work on her Rosetta Stone lessons in the kitchen.

I can hear the audio from across the (quiet) room. It's at 100% volume though.

EDIT #2

Make sure you've done all of the Windows updates. I spent a couple hours when I received it to go through all the various updates. It could be a driver issue.

Well, I got this laptop finally... And its kind of ok but its also horrible depending on your needs. Its CPU performs worse than it usually does in other similar machines. It is also slower than a Ryzen 5 3500u by quite a bit. If you want to play games, you can sort of forget it... Unless you want to play 10 year old games. Vega 8? Not really, unless you want to play some more modern games @ 720p. This laptops default is 1080p so anything lower looks like crap. Hell, this wont even run Warcraft 3 Reforged! The average fps is around 24.

The only viable games are those like Stellaris or Civilization where low framerate doesnt really matter.

As far as general productivity goes, its a descent machine, but the keyboard and mousepad are the cheapest, lowest quality you will ever find. But it does have a fingerprint reader and USB C. And for those that wonder, NO, you cant charge via USB C. Data only.

Boot speed is good. Only 5 seconds. Responsiveness is ok. No complaint there. Screen is very good for general office work and older 4x games as well as turn based games. Dont even think about FPS games.

Machine is also very heavy. Not something you can lug around much or work with in bed. Overall, something like this should cost no more than $200. Its way overpriced at $350+tax. Remember, with this machine you get exactly what you paid for, its not like a "steal" or a "bargain". More like bargain bin material.

Yeah, I have the same issue. Even having a fan on med setting this is not keeping up. And I don't always want to have Bluetooth speakers on or earbuds in. I'm thinking of sending it back for this.

My Gateway also had weak sound. I added a mini sound bar, attaching it by the auxilliary input jack. Using bluetooth, the audio was out of sync slightly on the sound bar while playing XviD files. The sound bar I got at Amazon was on sale for about $17 after coupon discount.
The price has since gone up. I decided to buy this unit in large part because it comes with 16GB RAM installed. Having several browsers on at the same time, especially memory hogs Chrome and Opera, eats up a lot of physical memory.

Isn't this the same laptop, just with 8GB of memory instead of 16?

Path of exile, WoW, Witcher 3 run 35+ FPS on this. You aren't going to find a laptop with these specs for $200 anywhere so gl with that, for $350 this is a steal if it lasts

If you put your ear to it, I can hear a weird electrical whine probably from the capacitors. Does anyone else have something similar? (It was also mentioned in the ars technica review, where it seemed to be noticeable even at normal distances, but mine can only be heard at really close distances)

I got mine yesterday, here are my observations/comments:

Right now I have it sitting next to an IdeaPad S340-15API with the Ryzen 3500U processor, and an HP Elitebook 850G6 for comparison purposes.

The only beefs I have with it are that the speakers sound kind of tinny, and the touchpad is a bit on the flimsy side, build-quality wise. I do hear a slight high-pitched whine off of it, but that's not unusual in a laptop from this price range. I think the "tuned by THX" is a bit over-the-top for this model, as the sound quality is marginally adequate at best.

The display panel is a Panda LM156LF1L03, 6-bit color, IPS, TFT-LCD. The machine is made by Shenzhen Bmorn in China, much like similar Walmart brands.

It has a really cool and unusual feature underneath the laptop, an expansion slot for an nvme SSD, which is accessible by simply removing 2 screws.

The Norton Lifelock trial version slows down and heats up the lappy considerably, but it is easy to uninstall.

The only flat out inaccuracy in the specs I've found is that the built-in webcam is 0.3MP, not 1MP as advertised. This is according to webcamtests.com. It does actually produce a very good picture compared to the other 2 laptops I have in front of me.

Also mine is the green color, it's more like "Hunter Green" than the light metallic green in the pictures. I like it and am pleased with this inaccuracy.

Overall I'm satisfied with the purchase, it doesn't have any real horrible deficiencies or deal breakers in my eyes, with build quality similar to the Lenovo; the power supply cord is actually a better quality in the Gateway.

Got the laptop and everything seems ok except USB-C doesn't output display to external monitor via USB-C. Every time I plugged it in, it said USB Serial error and no drivers from Gateway or Windows for it. Kinda bummed about that.

I like mine, but I agree with the others that the speaker volume is too low. I have a cheapie lenovo ideapad that has louder speakers than this.. other than that, seems to work well enough.
