I've never really followed MacBooks before. Will other outlets eventually get higher RAM configurations, or does that mainly stay an Apple Store custom thing?

After having 2 (yes 2) ipad pros go down in under 3 years........F apple. they pretty much said f u to me soooo to all things apple..... F apple.
That's odd. I've had older apple stuff fail on me back 10+ years ago, but since then, zero issues. I have three iPads of varying age that all still work.
For anyone looking, if you're going for the pro model, I would look for a deal on the 16gb version. It should help avoid swap memory usage. I got the base model M1 Air which has been great for its purpose, but it wasn't intended to be used for any work.
Did you drop the iPad pros? I have had 3 with zero issues.
nope i immediately put them in protective cases.... it was clearly a software issue from 2 ipads set up basically identical.
..the virtual keyboard would work fine/not work for a few seconds/work/ completely stop working etc. Opening and closing the app would fix it mostly and then it would go back to doing it 10 mins later. It's a known issue they chose to ignore from the people that spent the most are thier devices. Hence.... F APPLE.

Check AppleInsider website, was able to grab a 16 MBP (when they were all out of stock last year on release) with 32GB of RAM for the same price I would have paid from Apple's Education store
Searching Google for "Macbook Pro Deals" then clicking the NEWS tab at the top of Google search results will take you to the most recent big sales for that week/weekend
That being said unless you have no device to use at the time being id hold off until the 14" refresh or at least until you see what chip Apple puts in their 16" (which if not the same speed as the 13 Air/13 Pro M1 will cause those chips to drop in price further)
If you cant wait grab this one and know that the 16GB M1 Pro beat out the 16 MBP i7 intel in almost all benchmark tests while staying 1/3 to 1/2 the temperature of the 16 Pro and getting at least 2-3 hours more battery life

First iPad Pro 2018 256gb still going strong here and bought from Amazon.
Anyway back to the main topic. This price is what I paid after taxes for a Best Buy open box back in January that only had 2 power cycles on it.
Open box is a lottery but these see returns in great condition every now and then because...
they order this while waiting for the higher memory config to ship
they don't realize it only natively supports 1 display out of the box without dongles, docks, etc
some specific programs aren't supported by the M1 chip and they'd rather wait for the next version or the M1X
bought out of FOMO and then later buyer's remorse
it used to belong to a kid but they pissed their parents off and they returned it
It's a bit of a bigger gamble now though where you might not find an open box with low power cycles but they should still run like a champ if one shows up. Maybe there will be more available at lower prices when your city/state fully reopens from Covid and the people who don't trust mailed returns show up to return in-person.

I'd pay $100 more to get it without the touch bar. Hopefully they get rid of the touch bar in the next version. Until the M1 Macbook Air I'm on now will work. (16" air? that's what I want!)

I went this one while back for the 512gb storage. The 16 GB ram is mostly per Apple customization.
Costco has similar price like Amazon
https://www.costco.com/new-macboo...74607.
With the credit card and executive membership u get 4% rewards.
I prefer the macbook air over pro due to size and portability. Battery life is good on both. I'm happy with macbook air I got with extra SSD storage.
