For a metal base, cross braces at each corner are a warning sign. It means that none of the angles in the metal base are pre-welded, to save on packaging and shipping costs. The entire metal structure is held together with just screws. That in turn means that it will get wobbly over time.

Does anyone know ow reliable and sturdy this desk is? Does it make a lot of noise while typing or doing other things like making beats with a pad controller?

I have the L shaped desk. It's solid and makes 0 noise at all. I would definitely buy again.
