I used to have the greenworks and now Sun Joe. I would love to go back to Greenworks. It was lighter, easier to clean and replace tines, easier to store. The collection bag on Sun Joe is a joke, I don't use it any more.
I just used my dethatcher this past weekend. I did a cleanup with the blower first and then dethatch instead of raking. Afterwards, I spread the Scott's step 1 with seed germination and a bag of seed for over seeding . Should be good now!

This beats raking, that's for sure!
Sun Joe just came out with a newer version of this so this should drop in price more in the coming weeks.

Everything I'm reading about dethatching describes it as something you should only do if you have at least a 1/2 inch of thatch under your grass, and that this should basically never be an issue if you core aerate, mow regularly and don't over fertilize. Am I missing something?

If your lawn is in good shape then probably not needed. Just keep up the maintenance on it. But if the lawn is looking thin, then this may help. Also good for getting new seeds into the ground. Lots of factors in good lawn care.

I understand it would help clear a path to open ground. How does this help getting new seeds into the ground? You wouldn't use this after spreading seed, correct?

Take a rake and scrape your grass. How much dead grass is hiding and preventing air from reaching the ground. Much more than you'd think. Been using Greenworks for 5 years. Even though my corded is not broken I pulled the trigger yesterday for the battery operated one. I'll use my corded as a backup for the yearly chore.

Waiting for $90. It's better than the greenworks but not 30% better.

From what I've read, some thatch is actually a good thing. Last summer there were some spots on my lawn that suffered and it didn't seem to be a watering issue. Bounced back as the heat receded but I wonder if this would help. There's definitely not a half inch of thatch on the ground though.

Have one of these and they're amazing. Sunjoe customer care also amazing. Broke the rake and sun joe had a replacement at my door step 3 days later. No questions asked.

Wondering if fertilizing less or eliminated altogether would achieve the same result. Just a thought.
