Musician's Friend's "Stupid Deal of the Day" for today is the G&L Asat Classic Tribute Telecaster. This is an excellent entry-level, or even gigging musician guitar. I've owned one of these before and the quality/tone surpassed most MIM Fender Telecasters that I've played. The deal is good until the end of the day, or while supplies last.

Beautiful looking guitar, love the natural finish. Wish it came with a case. Any idea how this might hold up in a dry climate like Colorado?

I'll admit, I was tempted to buy since I'm in the market for an inexpensive Telecaster and I'd heard G&L are solid. Then I read the reviews and think I'll wait until the next Adorama Fender sale.

I know nothing about guitars, but am looking at this for my son. Is this any good? Great deal?

I got one in December for $350. Fantastic guitar, I love it. I've been playing for 30 years. I see none of the quality issues reported in the reviews, mine is perfect.

I picked one of these up last month on the SDOD when the white went out of stock they offered the ash.

Guitar is absolutely flawless. No quality/finish issues. Fret ends are rounded and smooth. Neck joint is a perfect fit. Neck feels unfinished or lightly finished which I like.

Several good reviews of this guitar on youtube. Make sure you watch the videos of the limited edition model with the alnico pickups not the standard tribute with MFD's

No expert, so take this with a grain of salt. I own three other guitars all in the $800 price range and this guitar is on par with them in terms of fit, finish, quality. So I think at $300 and free shipping it is a great deal. I've seen used ones on Craig's listing for $400 - $450.

The only issue might be the style of guitar your son would prefer. Depending on age and music choice he may want something more shreddy like an Ibanez or Jackson. Or something more flashy with a colored top

I was half tempted to get one but G&L guitars are always a stupid deal of the day every couple months or more just like the D'angelico guitars, which esthetically I do like more. So, if you dont pick up one now, no big deal they always have something on sale. I tend to check the stupid deal of the day regularly at musicians friend as well as the daily pick on guitar centers site.

I think the reason G&L is always on sale is because they don't really move. There is a lot of competition out there. I don't think they're bad instruments, even though I haven't personally played one myself, I just don't know anyone who has one and they never seem to be on anyone's radar. But a good deal is a good deal, regardless. And at this price point it does seem like a good deal....however, will it be better than a $200 Xaviere tele from guitar fetish? I don't know. But there are plenty of good instruments to be had at $300 bucks, especially used.

Who knows, maybe at some point I'll bite the bullet and order one on a whim just to see what I think. But probably not today.

The "L" in G&L stand for Leo Fender. G&L is the company George Fullerton and Leo Fender started after he sold of Fender. This G&L is considered on par with a Made in Mexico Fender and better then most of the Squires. So yeah, I would recommend it for a new or intermediate guitar player. Telecaster or T style guitars are pretty versatile guitars and a lot of fun to play.

That's the point that I'm making though. Who is buying G&L guitars??? I'm mid 40's, playing guitar since I was a kid, avid collector, guitar shows, guitar forums. I'm "into" guitar gear.
With that being said, I don't think G&L is very hot in the used gear dept, in as much as they aren't very hot in the new gear dept. So, unless I'm missing something, Jamie...Who is paying $399 for a used G&L guitar?????? Who is on the "LOOKOUT" and hot pursuit of G&L gear???? As much as I'm in that world, the brand G&L never comes up. That isn't to say that there aren't G&L fans out there. There must be because the company is still around, however compared to other brands, I just don't think they resonate as much. Just my personal opinion.

I've owned two of these. If you need a guitar-GET THIS. The quality for the price is unbeatable. They have nice satin necks, and the pickups have a bit more output than Fender versions. I bought two of these exact models, sold one for $400 on Reverb and kept one.

I was worried about the poor reviews, but I noticed they were mostly 2-4 years old.

As others stated, mine is flawless, build-quality wise. The neck is a bit weaker than the bridge, but works for me.

Put in a set of '51 Nocasters or Twisted Teles, and for @ $500 I think this leaves a Player series in the dust.

Jump on one of these, next time around...well worth it.
