I own a couple German-made Flexi leashes in various sizes, including this Extra Small version. It's great for smaller dogs, but feels like it could easily handle larger dogs, as well. This is one of the lowest prices I've ever seen on the XS, and the Small 16ft version, is priced about as low as I've ever seen as well. Even if you have a retractable leash, already, it's nice and compact to keep in a car or purse so you always have it.
I've been a frequent HF shopper over the years. I've seen their Chinese knock-off version of this retractable leash. The quality isn't even close. It's cheap for a larger size retractable leash, yes, but if you have a large dog such as a German Shepherd, I'd still spend the extra money to get a Flexi over the junky leash HF sells. HF sells a lot of nice no-name brand tools and other items for cheap... their dog leash is not one of their better no-name/house brand items.
These are great for when the dog walks the human.
Harbor Freight may have copied the mechanism of this leash, but the thing Flexi does right is the construction. The fit and finish is stellar. My 80 lb dog can run full speed (on the bigger model) and the mechanism catches her every time, time after time, without any signs of wear after years. Flexi is the best retractable leash period.

I always grab the leash at harbor freight because if you go to Wally world they'll charge you 4x the price of whatever is reasonable.
this leash is only for very small dogs, so for a couple of dollars more you'll get a heavy duty leash at HF

Have you ever taken apart the leash I actually have a flexi and I've taken apart to harbor freight and the flexi and they're both cheap metal spring wound. So unless flexi has come up with some other type of mechanism for the winding mechanism I have to say the only real difference could be the plastic and that's it so I think you're wrong.
Thin corded rope leashes (opposed to flat retractable) can be dangerous to both the pet and owner if the dog isnt always completely chill as it can get wrapped and tangled and cause rope burns. Also as someone that owns a newish flexi, not a fan of the button braking mechanism, it holds but gives like an inches of leeway, so you always hear and feel that when it goes from taught to loose.
Just want to chime in that these aren't the best leashes. Over the years I've had multiple break on me, and my pup is medium sized and not super strong. Seems like the weak point is at the end where the cord attaches to the metal leash attach part. All of mine have broken there.
Also, as others have stated, these can wrap around things and cause burns. My pup is well behaved and I've still had issues with this. Just a heads up!

I'm with you. I haven't had any issues with my HF leash.
I bought this a few months ago for my small dog, and picked this one because I read the cord was better then the flat on other SD's post. Anyway, mine has been just fine.
