Fwiw several hvac pros have warned me from using anything but the basic filters in our system. If you can't see through it, it's taxing your fan motor and will shorten life of your mechanicals. Unless you have some kind of crippling allergies which these help, I'd recommend using the basic cheapo filters as they're intended to keep debris from recirculating and harming the system rather than providing air filtration.
I am not an expert but I ran across this video on YouTube a couple weeks ago that I found very helpful. I had always heard to use the cheap filters as well but apparently you also want to consider how much dust and large particles are getting through the filter because dust in the motor can cause problems as well. The cheap filters don't always filter as much as you think, especially if you aren't good about replacing them every 30 days.

I ended up purchasing the 3M Filtrete 1900 filter since I can only use 1" filters in my apartment. If you can use 3" and 4" filters, there may be a better option for you.
The more pleats the greater the airflow. Those see through filters will let your unit clog and then they'll sell you a new A/C.

No where in the description on sams club does it say what size it is. Only the photo gives the size.
It's a 10x20x1
Merv 11
4pack

Edit: nevermind. missed the drop-down menu on the page for different sizes.

So the old school blown fiberglass filters, then? Or just cheap pleated ones with lower merv ratings?

I got some merv 8's that bang when the ac turns on/off from the suction in the registers

There are lots of different sizes available on the dropdown list.

And Pinksnyper has a good point, make sure that your furnace can handle this filtration level or risk a blown fan motor or tripped overheat sensors.

I just go to HD and buy the multi packs with the green colored fabric. Unsure if that's fiberglass or whatnot. The main concern is, can you see your hand through it? If so, it's fine. That's the instruction I was given.

Lower MERV ratings is what I've heard, 8 sounds about right. Alternatively, if you can fit a thicker filter, higher MERV might be fine, you just have to measure pressure drop

On the other hand, if you're using the 20x20 versions with a box fan as an air filter, this is a good deal

Just got a new furnace 6 days ago. The installer left two basic filters and said that's all you need. Swap out once a month and you are good.
