***UPDATE***
Best Buy now has matched Amazon's prices!
Thanks @TekkenLord

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/wd-w...Id=6425639

Was doing some searching on NVMe SSD's for my next SFFPC build and came across a deal on Amazon for a PCIe Gen 4 M.2 NVMe SSD.

Western Digital (WD) SN850.
Best Buy has it for $119, so this $99.99 price point from Amazon (shipped and sold) is pretty nice!

The 1TB and 2TB variants are also on sale and are at or near the best price ever.

500GB

I think the same way based on what I've seen on the u-tubes: it's hard for most people to notice the difference. Most reviewers conclude that you'd need to perform a niche work-related activity to really push file storage read/writes enough to notice gen 3 vs 4. In some of the videos, they couldn't tell the diff between an SSD v nvme gen 3 v gen 4. For me, I just like how clean nvme instal into the motherboard. No SATA cable or power and they're within a few bucks nowadays.

I got the 2 tb version of this for my pc. It is very fast, but game load times are on par with cheaper SSDs. The read and write rates are probably the fastest in the market right now. I got it because I just wanted the fastest and best so that I won't have to upgrade for a while, and I believe once windows starts direct access memory or whatever it's called, then the potential for these ultra fast gen4 drives will be seen.

The industry is waiting for the DirectStorage and RTX IO to be more mainstreamed [wccftech.com]. In addition, AMD Smart Access Memory [wccftech.com] will eventually improve with its next gen of ecosystem.

I purchased one and it was a noticeable difference from the SN750 I was using. It wasn't night and day, but I did notice things being faster.

Don't think it is necessarily worth the money for the performance difference for normal use, but am not unhappy with the purchase. I had a 10% coupon to use and needed more storage. Planned on waiting for the price to come down a bit, but the price isn't outrageous for a premium 4.0 drive.

The biggest difference I noticed was windows loading fast and response times seem better. If you are in the market for a 4.0 drive this is a good one to get.

Won't see any difference in games from Gen 3 until Directstorage Microsoft update for gen 4 is enabled. Even then games will have to be optimized to take advantage of the faster speeds of gen 4. Gen 4 is not there yet for games for PC. But, it works for new games on the PS4 and the Xbox series X (not sure about compatability on those systems, check with them). For PC not there yet for games and Gen 4.

Yeah the no cable and super easy install is great.

My first real gaming build had the original raptors in raid. Things sure have come up.

I wish these manufacturers would get together and decide to do a standard that is either 512 gb, 500gb or 480 gb. When I upgrade my C drive I use the older drive as a "protection drive" . Every week I clone the C drive (sector by sector) to the protection drive. So if my main drive fails I have an exact duplicate as a backup . But the catch is that if the new drive is just 12 gb larger than the older drive I cannot clone to the smaller drive— Even if the data on the main drive is only 300gb or so. This means I have to create a worthless 12 gb partition on the new 512 gb drive in order to clone to a 500 gb drive.

Should be compatible with PS5, but still no confirmation. Hoping price continues to drop.
