They have a perpetual problem of fake items, like SD cards and condoms, despite the sold and shipped by Amazon, so expired items would be of no surprise.

I've simply not seen any evidence from an actual incident. Even luk350's story is more than a bit suspicious... it lacks a lot of details. How far past expiration, did you call Amazon up, again, after you claim to have received a second expired pepper spray? Did they send you a new one or give your money back? What year did this occur? Did you write a review on Amazon about your experience? Etc, etc...
