These panels can also be quite useful for looking at old negatives and slides etc.
Thanks, I had no idea what this was

Does anyone own this? Could you write on the surface with dry erase/vis-a-vis markers? I was thinking of using it more as a hand-written light box than a tracing pad.

I picked up a similar device from Goodwill for $1. I don't think they had any idea what it was. I wouldn't take a chance writing on it with dry-erase markers, since the surface is plastic, and the solvents may etch the plastic. Maybe if you put a piece of glass over the top and write on that, it might work for what you want.

Or, it didn't occur to me before, use neon crayons maybe.

Edit: Not sure if the one I got is dimmable, I just got the board itself, it's a micro-USB connection, didn't come with a power supply or cable. I've added pics.

I haven't tried it, but the surface is a standard acrylic (plexiglass) panel and is very glossy, so it will probably work.

If it is acrylic then no, dry erase will etch. But, you can put a sacrificial layer of vinyl or dry erase overhead projector sheet over it.

I have a similar one by a different company. It's quite nice and worth $12 in my opinion. My kids don't use it often, but enjoy it when they do. It looks delicate, I'm amazed my kids haven't broken it yet (had it over 1 year). But they know to be careful with it.

I got this exact same one (different "brand") during black friday for $7. It works good but I mainly use it for when my kids have zoom. It illuminates the paper they are writing on so it's easier for the teachers to see. It's only good for single papers and not books. I guess you could but it's kind of hard to use with books.

So even with an LED lamp right above this thing will show brighter and the teachers can see the kids writing better.
