This looks like the best we're going to get for payroll. Usually we have a few deals in December and January, but none have come up in this price range, which is the typical "good deal" for quickbooks and payroll. My payroll expires in a couple weeks. Problem is I don't need a Lowe's gift card.

In this format, only the Payroll Enhanced portion is subscription correct? The rest of quickbooks is permanent?
Longtime QB Pro user here with Enhanced Payroll. I researched this as all this new "plus" crap was confusing me. Quickbooks Pro Plus is a subscription based program good for one year. One year for Quickbooks Pro Plus, one year for enhanced payroll. I usually just buy a whole new QB Pro with Enhanced PR on black Friday because someone always has a deal for like $250. I didn't do that this year and my payroll expired on March 18. I ended up just purchasing a year of Enhanced Payroll on Amazon for $399 (best price I could find). Then it took me 1/2 hour per usual to get it working while talking to someone from QB. I am so irritated by Intuits rip-off schemes. I wish there was something else I could use. I have TWO employees.

I have 4 employees, but otherwise same situation as you here. I don't think there were any deals for $250 as you say is usual.
Thanks for posting your research and sounds like better off just paying for payroll rather than this deal.
I think it's over $400 to just let the payroll auto renew from Intuit. Quickbooks is typically good for 3 years until it forces you to upgrade, but the payroll is only good for a year.
Any other ideas other than just paying $400 for the payroll key?
The cost of payroll itself is normally $500 per year plus $2 per employee per month. So this deal is much better. It includes payroll with one employee, you get the updated quickbooks and $200 to Lowe's. For $399.

$500 payroll is only if you renew through Intuit. I have had quickbooks payroll for 13 years and never paid more than $250 buying it through another retailer.
Good price if it wasn't the Plus subscription version. Anyone know when the regular desktop version will go on sale again? I don't need payroll.
Same here, I am a sole P. Last time I bought QB was on sale for less than $200. I would like to upgrade, but I will keep using the 2016 Pro. I can rationalize $200, but not $400.
I think they want to push people to the subscription model for the steady income stream.
This may not be the place, but I have several brand new retail versions of the 2020 Desktop Pro & Premier with the disc or download option available for sale. There are a few with the Payroll Enhanced option as well.

Do you have a link of another retailer selling enhanced payroll for around $250?

Quickbooks just has a license to print money given they have the installed base by their throats. Went through the same experience. When my payroll expired it took me a WHOLE day on the phone with QB reps to get there garbage single-signon-Intuit-account-authentication-nonsense all square away again.
