As someone else posted, this is a great way to get into the Makita ecosystem. It's worth it for the batteries alone.

I'm a little hesitant to invest heavily into the 36V line (despite having the circular saw, miter saw, blower) because the release of the 40V single battery is on the horizon, but I have dozens of 18V tools so at least the 18V batteries are compatible between 18V and 36V.

And while this is an exceptional value, do some research before buying if you're only planning on reselling. I know posters on SD would resell toilet paper if they could make a dime a roll (no one seems to value their time) but this is the third time Makita has done this promotion since last summer and I am constantly seeing the circular saws, dual chargers, and 5.0 batteries (loose, and in double pack) flooded all over the various marketplaces at prices that almost don't make it worth the effort to part out if you don't intend to keep something out of need. Just an FYI

The batteries are "Free Gift with Purchase" on the product page and will be added to the cart automatically.

One of my HD's had this deal yesterday on display. Also offering the brushless reciprocating saw for $150 right now right next to this deal.

Should be available In store. Look for the deal displayed on a end cap but make sure whichever store you go to has both items in stock before heading that way.

Does anyone use dust collection with the top handle saw; if so, how good is it? I have the rear handle and it's great, but without the dust collection port it makes a giant mess.

For basic cross cuts and rips which handle is better?

I really like the rear handle saw from a control standpoint, but it's pretty long and heavy (that's both good and bad). Battery removal can be a pain. The top handle is supposed to be more powerful and much more compact.
