Not sure about the last one. WD is an American company, but I think they are still made elsewhere typically in China/Malaysia.

How does the XPG fare compared to the WD? My brain is a little too smooth to understand all the technical talk

The Newegg email subscriber promo code still valid. If you subscribe to their promotion email, you should have received it and it still works. The 10% coupon that was available for everyone seems like disappear. But can still use the email subscriber 10% off code from email.

For those subscribe to Newegg promo email, there is 10% off promo code (check your email).

It's now slower since they now use a slower controller on even the 2TB

the WD Black SN750 does not get very hot in normal use. So you should be fine without the heatsink on this one.

This drive will be fine for laptop use. However, the absolute best drive for laptops is the SK Hynix P31, if you can snap it up at a good price. It has top tier PCIe 3.0 speeds and uses half the power of the next best performance drive.
