This is the newly released version of Ridgid's standard capacity battery (thanks x_workman_x). The new higher output version is the "Max Output". The new batteries are backwards compatible with the previous 18v lines (regular and Octane), and older 18v batteries are forward compatible with the new line of tools they are releasing.
ICYMI, Ridgid is retiring the "Octane" line and revamping with the Max Output tools, which are supposed to be a little more compact and brushless.

To all the newcomers to the Ridgid line, don't forget to register the batteries online for the Lifetime Service Agreement (LSA). Some folks assume the lifetime warranty is automatic -- nope. No lifetime warranty unless you register WITHIN 90 DAYS of the purchase date.

To be clear, all 18v Rigid batteries are supposed to work with all 18v Rigid tools.
I have the Octane saw and I cannot make a full depth cut on a non octane battery but the Octane battery makes the same cut and doesn't stall.
I already have too many batteries but it's a decent deal
I love the $257 suggested retail. What nonsense

Holy cow, you're right. I thought the charger looked different. If you look at the battery indicator and button, they are clearly different than the outgoing model. Also, the release buttons on the new batteries are all black; old batteries' are black and orange. Thanks!
I will say that the Ridgid Megamax system is incredible. The sawzall attachment makes it into a beast the likes of which I never thought possible. With the amount of power it brings to the table, the blades hardly get hot, cut fast, and don't get hot. It was never really marketed, and they only ever carried it in a few stores. It's a shame it didn't catch on.
If you were interested in Ridgid, you should probably start with a drill set, though.
