Action Required for Changes to Your Account

We hope you are enjoying your FreedomPop service and want to inform you of some upcoming changes to our free plan.

In order for us to continue passing on the best value to all of our subscribers, we need to make changes that will have an impact on those enjoying our current free tier.

Don't worry, FreedomPop will keep a free tier! But recent rate changes on our data network provider, together with our superior buying power on our largest underlying carrier, make a free offering only viable on our Premium network going forward.

For those who wish to continue receiving 100% free talk, text, and data, you must upgrade to a Premium SIM by May 1, 2021. With FreedomPop Premium, you get true cellular voice, text, and data - no app required! This means you can experience FreedomPop's amazing value while using your phone as it was meant to be used. Upgrade today at FreedomPop.com.

If you do not migrate by May 1, 2021, your account will be automatically enrolled into the Essential Plan which offers 350MB and 200 minutes / 200 texts each month for only $3.99/mo.

We hope this notice gives you ample time to make the decision that's right for you. Please take action by either upgrading your account to a Premium SIM, changing your current subscription to any other plan, or cancelling altogether by May 1, 2021.

If you have any questions, please view our helpful guide on completing your premium voice upgrade.

for more info here is the link [freedompop.com]

Not sure if they can legally just automatically enroll and start charging. I am sure a lot of folks that have the accounts don't even use the sims.
can the 'top up' $ be used to pay for this $3.99/month fee?

I thought Freedom Pop had gone under quite a while ago. They sold the three lines I had on them to Ting, or at least we got transferred to Ting without any choice in the matter. Used Ting while they offered the decent intro rate, then moved on.

Don't miss using Freedom Pop at all though. It was great, unless you actually needed something.

I did have to dispute a bunch of $1 charges they hit me with on my free plans after getting no response from them about why they were happening.
I had this exact same experience! Glad to know I wasn't alone. What a neat concept that flopped terribly in practice.

The multiple $1 charges were so scummy though.

To be clear, it looks like you literally are porting from this older site into the new freemium site. Not really an easy upgrade path at all. All for 25MB? Pass...guess they get to keep the $10 top up deposit I made years ago.
I had signed up, and used the free tier for a few months, for a tablet, then forgot about it for like a year, my account still logs in via that site but says "You have not signed up for FreedomPop service yet", and obviously the tablet doesnt connect. Wondering if I will get charged... If they do ill file a chargeback because its shady.

I had it a few years ago. Back then, if you didn't use it at least once quarterly it was deleted. Does that explain your "problem".

They started placing fake charged on my CC, so I cancelled. Have they gotten any better lately?

Stay far away from this SCAM of a company. Good luck if you have a number there that you want to transfer out. They've now moved to a scummy tactic of flagging your account as fraud and abuse right after they give you the port out information. When you try to appeal they say they've escalated to their "upper management" - which can only work through email and will not chat or call... you'll wait days only for that "upper management" to tell you there's nothing they can do and they have no reason for why the account is flagged. Meanwhile, you number was likely already released. More stories like mine on "red it" I already opened my consumer complaint with the FCC but there's no real chance I'll get my number back. FCC info if you need to do the same: https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov/hc/en-us

I was able to get Port Out information right from the portal on their website. I'm porting into Simple Mobile.

How sure after you that what you're saying is a widespread practice and not just a one off situation?
I finally closed my account, I used to have the free service on my back up iphone just to keep imessage active. This company is nothing but full of crap. Not to mention how many times they charged me for the deposit thing, then overcharged me for sim card, funny thing, they messed up my account and I didn't have service for like 2 months, I didn't care at first but what's the point to let them charge me a cent a month and I can't use my phone? Then I asked, they said that's their system problem and I need a new sim card. Ok, so they sent the card, and I need to pick a new number, then first time the system messed up again and I didn't get a new number but they charged me 5.99 right away, so I talked to someone online they said they will refund, just go ahead and try to get a new number again and it will be refund too. So I did, got one refund. Never got the second one.
So finally decided just to go with Tello, cheap enough and I don't deal with bs. Then freedompop giving me bs about porting.Tello tried like 15 different times, because everytime I asked for port out info it was wrong, I first gave tello the port out page information, they said it was wrong and freedompop refused to port out. Then I went online asked what's my info, they gave me totally different information, PIN was not even the same. Tello said it was wrong and freedompop refused to port out. So I talked to someone again, then it was wrong. So I finally just give up. I closed my freedompop account. This company has been bullshitting customers, and there are people willing to say "user mistake!" F you user mistake, normal people will not want to deal this level of scam.

FWIW - I ported out 3 FP numbers to Ting last year. All 3 took over a month, multiple chats with Ting customer service (excellent BTW), and a opening a ticket with FP. Major PITA. And there was no way to completely erase my account and credit card afterwards so I had to open up another ticket for that. It's really an awful company with poor customer service and IMHO scammy tactics. I thought they might get better and more polished over time but after 4 years with them, I'm glad to have moved on.

I could never quite get it to cancel correctly when I tried last year. I basically ended up 'de-authorizing' it as a recurring payment (I was using paypal) and it finally went away. That said, I got the recent email as well... giant pain in the butt.

Thanks for the link. I was able to go in and cancel my account. Their new free plan is a joke. And the only option I was given besides the free plan, cost $20 a month. I ended up going with Red Pocket for $30 a year.

I honestly thought FreedomPop was dead and didn't realize I still had accounts with them. I went in and cancelled the two that I had without thinking about any cancellation fees they may charge. I'll let you know if something pops up on my credit card, although I'm not even sure if they have an active credit card of mine on file at this point. It's been so long since I used them.

Again, does anyone know if there's a shipping cost for the premium SIM? It's $10 but can't tell the shipping fee unless you go through checkout.
