I really like the style of the Brimfield, with the "Rustic" a close second. They're way less generic-looking than the vast majority of kitchen tables you'll find in this price range.

Those drop leaves give you extra flexibility, especially in small spaces. They could be sofa tables or entryway tables with the leaves down.

I have the Brimfield. I've had it for several years. My wife and I like it. It looks nice and is able to seat 4 people. However, it's not easy to clean the top due to there being a lot of grooves in the wood. I wouldn't get this if you have children, unless you plan to always have placemats down. We had visitors over and I still have glue, glitter, and remnants of playdough in some of the grooves.

Any recommendations for a good dining table set $500 or under? Mainly looking for good build quality "modern" looks or wood if possible

Thank you. My husband needs a desk that is wide deep like that.. will be perfect to use for that purpose. He likes that the Brimfield doesn't have anything that will hit his knees.
