Spend a little more and get the Thrustmaster on sale
Agreed. I've owned both and the TMX Pro offers smoother and more accurate force feedback, better pedals, and an upgrade path. The only thing I liked more about the G920 was the faux-leather rim. The driving experience of the TMX is better.
Looks like thrustmaster makes quite a few. Is there a specific one you recommend? Some are only $100
I recommend you not get the t300rs as I have one and it has issues where the wheel just slams itself to death during calibration. Look it up on YouTube, it is pretty common. Only fix is to get a new one, 300 bucks down the drain. I'd say if you're not going to go all crazy and get a direct drive wheel like the Fanatec wheel then the logitech 920 for casual play.
I bit on this, been waiting and watching for months and haven't seen any decent deals, best I've seen since I started looking. Also grabbed myself an GT Omega Apex on sale from their website for $135 shipped. I figured I have the option if ever I have the space to throw down a few hundred more on a sale and convert to a full cockpit if I wish. Not horribly cheap entry price, but not bad around $350 for a solid stand and decent steering wheel.
I did read up on the thrustmaster belt driven's. Most of what I was reading was lead me to believe that the G920 has a better longevity track record. May not feel quite as accurate, but if it's likely to last longer, that's where my money is going.

I have racing games on both systems. Would be nice to buy 1 wheel that works on both!

Only down side with thrustmaster is the pedal that comes with it. Is not good. So you might want to upgrade it.
If you are not planning to upgrade, then the g29 /g290 might be a better overall experience at base price.
