I've had this for a year with no issues. I would recommend it for my enemies who like their lawn watered properly
I wouldn't buy any smart device that doesn't have a dumb mode. If an app is required to use it and the company goes out of business you might get screwed.
I have the V2. It adjusts for weather.

Bought one from Costco. If company goes out of business, it goes right back to Costco. 😁
I would t recommend this product to my worst enemy.
I've had nothing but problems with gen1 & gen2 16zone. Worked with customer service for months trying to get my gen2 working without any success. Finally moved on to the Bhive and I'm glad I did, not a single issue and over 10months of use

Taken from a quick google search:
"With the ability to connect to the Rachio app via 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, in addition to being controlled manually makes this controller best suited for the largest audience."

I've had a refurbed gen2 for 2 years with no issues. The gen1 was a nightmare. Does anyone know if there's a diff bw a gen2 and a gen3? Thinking of purchasing one for my parents. Thanks in advance!

I believe the only difference is the more localized weather.
I've had the 1st gen unit for years and it works great! This is a bit easier to setup with the wifi, but otherwise it's the same. Great item to own.
While having automatic sprinklers isn't something new, this uses weather information (and can be hooked up to rain/water sensors) to decide to skip a scheduled watering.
What I love is when I'm doing maintenance, I can start and stop different zones with my phone. Or just randomly spray my kids when they are out back.

100% agree on sprinkler maintenance! Had to have our 59 year old orangeburgh sewer line replaced, which caused half my front yard to be destroyed. Between sprinkler pipes being cut, and sprinklers being broken by the backhoe, I was grateful to be able to cycle the system from my phone instead of having to make a trip to the back yard to turn on and again to turn off. Since we have watering restrictions here, I have the lite version of the Gen 3 because I don't need the forecast feature. I love it! Beats the heck out of my old manual Orbit timer.

Yes, it's a set it and forget it ( at least the version3 is). Version 2 doesn't have the auto weather adjustment.
