S4 (T4) is based on the original 2016 Mi robot Vacuum (also same CPU) while the S5 (S50) is the premise for everything that came after it. The S6 (T6) is an updated version of the S5/S50 with more sensors, but the basic PCB design and motor layout is the same.
The "S6" isn't part of the same series of robots as the S4 MAX, S6 Pure and S5 MAX which are the newer P5 platform with modifications, but the older S5 and S4 do support multi floor mapping now. S6 obviously had it a lot earlier as it was more of a flagship model at the time.
S5 MAX does not have CPU upgrades, but rather extra features tacked on. In reality its a hybrid of P5 electronics/sensors + the Chinese T7 model mopping features.
S6 Pure (P5) isn't the same or similar as the S6 (T6). People keep spewing out this but they're wrong.. the internal design is way different. Even the chassis sits higher on the P5.
S6 MAX V is a rebranded T7 PRO with worse features such as a slower charger and downgraded floor mat. The regular T7 was never sold outside of china, but we got the S5 MAX which is a "lower end" version. T7 has various upgrades relatively sensor wise and a stronger motor.
I agree the naming scheme is really messed up.
P5 (Entry model):
S6 Pure (Different top plate, otherwise the same robot and features at a higher cost vs Chinese model)
S4 MAX (Removed mopping attachment)
S5 MAX (Has T7 water tank and extra features)
T7:
Never sold outside of China
T7 PRO:
S6 MAX V (Downgraded slow charger, cheaper floor mat)
T7S:
S7 (Downgraded slow charger)
T7S PLUS:
T7S but has camera like T7 Pro, not announced globally.
Chinese models have 3 prong bristle side brush (Better IMO, trade for durability), Global models have 5 prong rubber brush.
The charger difference likely comes down to wear and longevity for battery (they do not sell replacements), though they do sell the S6 with premium faster charger globally.
S6 (Non pure) is close to the Chinese T6. Rubber side brush is only change.

S6 has mopping (though not very good), while S4 max is vacuum only. For vacuuming, S4 max seems to have better reviews and suction.

We're using the S4 max for our hardwood floors and with our dog and it works really well. We've noticed that when it transitions onto area rugs, the suction does go down a bit on carpet.
The only real complaint we have is that we have to empty the darn bin after each cycle. The S7 is around the corner, with the large bins.
