I ended up picking up one of these with Free Shipping as a "spare" for my travel tool bag or car, but it's a similar design to the 250mm Knipex version, [kctoolco.com] which I also own - and is considerably more expensive in this size. Also, if you're interested, someone in a tool forum mentioned this appears to be made by Fujiya (of Japan) [fujiya-kk.com]. I had to search Fujiya's website, but after looking at their very similar-designed "Grip Monkey Wrench" pliers, I agree, they do appear to be made by Fujiya. Also, the COO is NOT provided on NAPA's website, so that tells me it's unlikely Made in USA or Japan... and Fujiya's website mentions manufacturing facilities in Vietnam. I'm guessing these are made in Vietnam, but I'm not sure. ***EDIT -- I received my order the other day and can confirm these are actually made in Taiwan and the size on tool is listed as 250mm (which is 10" - same as Knipex) and not the 263.5mm stated by NAPA.

Yes. This'll be the reason I purchase some pliers wrench.

Update: I received my wrench in less than a day!

Seriously... I just posted NAPA's description with the inches conversion, but clearly these are the same as the Fujiya Pliers Wrench and similar to Knipex's Pliers Wrench design. I noticed Jammer's comment as well, and just changed the description in the OP. Clearly "pipe wrench" is not a great description from NAPA or Carlyle.

Hey, we appreciate your detailed analysis of the Carlyle Pliers "Pipe Wrench" Wrench! I certainly picked up a set to go with my other pliers pliers and wrench wrenches!

In all serious I'm curious on the effectiveness of straight jaws with no serrations but I don't have anything similar to these and I hadn't slickdealed for a few days so why not right?

they are pliers wrenches dude. They are straight jawed because they're to be used like an open ended wrench.

I agree that It was odd that NAPA, a company that sells mostly automotive-related products and tools, describes this pliers wrench as a "pipe wrench," like they were Home Depot. Not the best marketing people at NAPA, I guess. Nonetheless, yes, the serrated jaws on a pipe wrench, for ex, would bite into a bolt where these smooth-jawed pliers wrenches (like the Knipex version) act like a large quick-adjust crescent wrench. They're great for quick adjustments that don't damage the bolts you're trying to adjust (it's also a preferred tool of many traveling bike mechanics for the obvious reasons I just stated, above).

Excellent deal. Been eyeing some Knipex but didn't want to drop that much coin for the small amount of use I need these for. Appreciate it!

These replace a monkey/adjustable/crescent wrench. Lots of videos on YouTube about the Knipex version and it's advantages over a regular adjustable wrench. I have the 7" version of the Knipex pliers wrench and it is too small for many uses, so this 10" seems like a better more versatile size to me.

Anyone know how good the quality of metal/steel on this Carlyle version vs a Knipex? And how good are they at replacing the tool under their lifetime warranty?

Thanks for the detailed analysis on where it's made, OP.
