Alkaline water, what is it? Alkaline water is water that is basic, the opposite of acidic. It has a high pH, above 7.
If alkaline water is just water that is basic, couldn't I just make my own alkaline water by adding a weak base like baking soda to plain water? Yes, absolutely you could.
So why drink this water? Maybe it tastes better? Not sure.
Is it healthier than normal water? Hard no. Not even close. Let me explain why:
Your body makes a TON of acid during normal cellular metabolism. Your kidneys are very good at eliminating acid with little effort. You have so much capacity that you can donate an entire kidney and you'd be fine. The amount of acid in a tomato or vinegar or soda is a fraction of a percent of the total acid your body deals with daily. Drinking alkaline water doesn't affect your body pH in the slightest. It is like buying a houseplant to increase your oxygen levels. If you do the math, it is absurd.
So buy it if you like it but don't think it is healthy. It is placebo at best. A scam at worst.

Ironic that Americans are still paying to ship in water from around the world, like Iceland and Fiji — two very environmentally conscious places.
I'm barely "green" at all but ditching bottled water (especially non-local stuff) was one of the first and easiest things I ever did to reduce shipping emissions and landfill waste.
Just $0.02. I'm sure a lot of people would also TC a deal on a Hummer H1 as a daily driver, and rightfully so. Pur filters were a game changer for me. I know that's apples and oranges...actually more like tangerines and oranges.
