Bought this a while back because I don't like subscriptions, and found out that they significantly shortened the support time frame. Used to be like 10 years of patches or something like that, now, now it's only like 6 years. Something to keep in mind.

Other than that i feel silly for paying almost full price for this back in 2019... Should have just trained the family on LibreOffice...

I believe you misspelled Windows and Macintosh. What the heck is Linux? Is that an automobile?

Tradeoffs all over the place with Microsoft office.

If you still have a .edu, it might be worth looking into whether or not your university still pays for you to have access to these apps. I know that my old community college (which I haven't attended in 10+ years) still lets me access them on a old account, but the trade off is you have to log into your account and probably mess with some account permissions on your machine to do so.

Really bummed Microsoft stopped offering this software as part of the traditional Home Use Program.

But only the windozer version will actually get you a paying job. For homework and book reports that you do, liveroffice is fine.

Microsoft Office peaked with the 2003 version.

Although i do use libreoffice and gdocs for everything i can get away with, I will still use excel for formula/vb compatibility and word to ensure that formatting will look right when i send an important document to a windows user. Office still has a place in this world.

I wouldnt worry too much about outlook not being included though, unless you really love that email client for some reason. There are many (subjectively) better options if you want to store your email offline. Outlook is actually pretty barebones by comparison

True that. Im still using my 2003 perpetual license when i have to do something in word or excel. Afaik there is no feature that im missing out on, and document compatibility with current office has never been a problem yet. That said, i hardly use review comments and i think that might be something that you need a later edition of word to appreciate.

I still think a viable option is to buy an old 2003 pro product key on ebay for a few bucks. It'll give you 99% of what this deal will.

Getting the Mac version legit without a grey market key makes this worth it. Nice not to have to buy a monthly subscription if the storage isn't an issue. Repped and thanks for the good deal.

I did not even know you could still buy / own this software, for some reason I thought everyone was forced on to the subscription.

So what is the benefit of an office 365 subscription over this?
According to Microsoft the upcoming Office will supposedly be the last perpetually licensed version. If you believe that.

Most of the stuff that is done in Microshaft's Office can be done in LibreOffice (I use them interchangeably on a daily basis for both paid work and anything else). Smilie

6 years from release, regardless of when you bought it. Support ends on 10/14/2025.

To be fair, the LibreOffice Writer has a lot to be desired. For small documents it's ok, but anything larger than say 50 pages it's a tad buggy from my experience. But I don't use it much. I do however use LibeOffice Calc regularily, not necessarily for very complicated things with graphs etc, but it's been working pretty well for me for years. But I can see why businesses want to stick with Microsoft, it's just more stable.
