Just a FYI, non-FDA approved mask are not tested for toxicity such as Formaldehyde and Fluorocarbons (PFCs).

How about experts in biological aerosol science? Check out Dr. Lisa Brosseau. They offer minimal benefit, especially against aerosol transmission. At best their impact can be described as very limited.

I read a similar study that showed even in certified surgical masks, infected individuals tested to have viral particles in high concentration OUTSIDE the mask post exhalation at force (coughing). On average people touch their face a dozen or more times an hour. When you sum mask inefficacy with generalized either ignorance and/or laziness to follow proper ancillary procedures, well, the net benefit is marginal. If it creates a false sense of security, then some masks worn by some individuals may well actually create an added risk : / There is more to this mask debate than this but, it is all worth considering, especially to increase awareness and hopefully mitigate all disease transmission long term with knowledge.

That said some masks (NIOSH approved N95 or better yet P100) do work very well, when properly used, for many but not all pathogens, especially as part of a well designed and strict epidemiological approach.

100%. Surgical masks were created to prevent infections during surgery. Studies have demonstrated they're not even doing a good job at that. For respiratory protection they're not good at all, nor for source control. They fit poorly and air is forced through the gaps at increased velocity. So much of this masking debate is still using outdated thinking that it's larger droplets causing infection and not aerosols. The impact of cloth/surgical masks on preventing spread of COVID has been limited at best.
