Quick answer is yes, this will be more powerful. Longer answer is that HP numbers are pretty bogus, but CFM is definitely a bit more truthful (even more so at the same hose diameter).
Craftsman puts their name on lots of vacs, so not sure what specific one you have. But looking at specs on this craftsman 3.5hp vac (https://www.searshometownstores.c...WetDry-Vac) they are kind enough to list CFM and they're at 67 CFM and that's at the same 1 7/8 inch hose diameter. This Ridgid is around 120 CFM at the same hose size, that's a obviously significant difference.
I've been waiting for a deal on one of these. Finally snagged one, thanks!
Just out of curiosity, if you use these to vacuum small amounts of stagnant water, would you use the bag that's depicted or just let it pool directly into the bin? What about with dry garbage—is the bag optional? Thanks!
In order to be helpful, why don't you tell everyone why it S%$$U%3C4@#K@S?
I think Cordless is going to take over. I'm sick of pulling my ShopVac around the garage Same with my Leaf Blower. Thanks, Ryobi!!
Most cordless models, if not all, are not as strong as the plug in models. There is a 9 gallon rigid that can take two 9AH batteries and runs 1 hour not actually sucking anything up. With a 4AH it's around 14 minutes. That one can completely replace a corded shop vac, but even if you don't need any batteries it's still more than twice as expensive as a comparable cheaper corded model. You don't even need to go high end brand to get comparable performance to that rigid so you can get away with a sub $50 shop vac and have unlimited run time.
The rub is the cordless will have batteries degrade just over time without use. The electricity in your home will not. To fully take advantage of your batteries with that vacuum you need to run it pretty often really. If you are running it pretty often then you are better off with a corded model. Catch 22 right there. Regardless there are some tools like the shop vac, lawn mower, snow blower, and leaf blower/mulcher(to name some) that should really be hybrids. That way you have the convenience of battery with the sheer time tested unlimited runtime of corded as a backup.
Pretty much anything you might need to use for hours should be corded or hybrid. The biggest obstacle to taking the plunge is always price though. On a budget nothing beats 1/4th the cost tool plus a universal 100' 12ga extension cord. More power and less cost over ownership. Everyone hates cords but you can totally be very efficient with them after checking youtube tips on quickest load out and put away methods. If you need more range for hours your stuck with gas until they figure out how to extend run times on batteries and make them be actually useful 10-20 years later.
I've been waiting for this specific sized Ridgid shop vac with detachable blower to come back into stock since I last purchased it for $99 maybe 8 months ago?
I set HomeDepot in-stock alert and was never notified. Thanks OP. It's even $30 cheaper.
The detachable blower is fantastic for what it is. It isn't the most powerful blower and it is corded, but it is more than adequate for my needs. I much prefer plugging my extension cord in to quickly blow dirt and leaves off our decks, patios, and driveways versus grabbing a broom to sweep.
And it also is a very capable 4-gallon wet/dry shop vac... small enough to pull around, clean what I need, and has a smaller storage footprint. I am not interested in having a 12 or 14-gallon beast laying around.
That being said, I am still waiting on the EGO refurbished 580CFM blower that was $99 to come back. I should have bought more than one to leave at various houses. That was a great price for a cordless, stand-alone blower with some power.
I just bought the Stainless Steel 6hp deal from a few weeks back. It's big and bulky but it was also $50. Anyone have any pros and cons comparing these two Ridged options? More importantly something that would make me return the stainless one...?

The detachable blower itself makes this version a much more versatile 2-in-1 wet/dry shop vac option for me. As well as the smaller form factor. Hope this helps.
I have this and wish I would have gone with the larger capacity one even though power is comparable. The issue is with capacity. It's 4 gallons but you lose power way before you get close. Also the hose is smaller and debris like nails and longer pieces of wood get wedged in constantly. The compactness is nice. I've never used the blower feature it's kind of useless.
Anyone have this? How powerful is the leaf blower? Probably not insane enough to move wet leaves or do heavy duty leaf blowing I assume? Probably more for just cleaning off driveways and patios and such?
Have this in the larger container size. I believe the blower is the same. Thing rocks. If it broke, would buy again. No hesitation.
