Pretty sure you would have a tough time building this on your own for $129.xx; Maybe a cheap one out of pine, but forget about doing it in cedar at that cash.

That said, pretty much all of the Kidcraft houses are built on the same basic blueprint, then they add on flower boxes, etc, I've built many of these for in-store displays as a contractor and they're very durable if assembled properly (3.5 hours start to finish!), but they are not really usable outdoors in the weather. The 2-piece roof is screwed together at the peak, but it is going to leak. The windows do not close, the door has no glass or plastic for windows.... That said, It's an amazing house for a playroom for $129.

Recommend storing this inside or building an internal frame to reinforce the structure. If you live in a windy area, ground stakes would be useful. Mine barely lasted a month.

Have you seen the cost of a 2x4 lately? I agree you could build one with better material but its also going to cost 3x as much plus labor

Not for everyone, but to some I'd suggest going to your local bulk building materials supplier, like 84 Lumber, and asking if they have a "kit."

There usually isn't a kit, they just put together lists of projects (usually sheds, treehouses, decks) that can be done with bulk items they have ready to go and they'll add a combo discount.

You have to get your own paint, but I've built sheds for friends...saved at least 40%-50% the cost of the same size at Home Depot. And it can be put together better (2x4s instead of 2x2s, premium paint, deck screws vs nails, custom ramp, etc.)

No, I don't think you could replicate this on your own, but I don't think this is made from the $75 cedar planks you see at Lowe's either. I doubt you could find cedar as cheap as the stuff used in these. Definitely not an HD or Lowe's.

I'll build mine and make it nice and ready to quickly switch over to a shed when she's bored with it.

Yep, this is Not the time to be building sheds and decks, that's for sure. I was amazed last year when I walked into a HD the price for a 2x4. they used to be like $2.50!

Glad I finished my shed foundation deck 1.5 years ago....right before this happened.

Yeah, no kidding. We made blueprints for a large barn a few years ago and got priced for lumber then. We went for another quote this year. What would have costed us $15k a few years ago is now $45k!!! That's farking insane. No barn for us for awhile...

Had mine outside for some time now on our patio, we have high wind gusts and have had no issues.

If you are looking into backyard chickens, these playhouses can be reinforced with hardware cloth and work pretty well. The 2 chicken coops you can buy on Amazon are much much smaller. Would need rocks for around the edges too and a small roost inside and a laying box but if you're a little handy they can work.

I'm thinking about reinforcing the subflooor and maybe sidewalls a bit and throwing it in a tree for a treehouse. Cut a hole in the floor for a rope ladder....not sure if it will survive amd at the cost of lumber kid will be too old by the time prices come down

We have the same one and the kids have loved it. No issues with durability but we are in a warmer climate. Either way, this is a good find.
