Link to Costco.com for reference only. Picked this up at the chesterfield, VA Costco at half off. They were not marked down on the sign, but rang up for $49.97 at checkout. Got 2 and there were still three left. Probably a clearance item.

This was just released so probably a promo.

EDT: Just to be clear, I'm not saying that this isn't leaving the store in the future (.97 means it is manager adjustment) but generally this product should be available. I believe .88 and .00 is final item and discontinued.

.97 is a clearance price. If there is an asterisk in the upper right corner of the sign then it also means that it's been discontinued and won't be restocked. However, this can happen if they are bringing the product back in a different size or different packaging.

Dang wish I had been lucky enough to find a clearance deal like this on them! I bought 2 for the original $99 asking price and have no complaints. They're really nice bins and seal very well. They're a bargain at $50! My older plastic bins had started cracking on the bottom. I live in South Florida and I'm pretty sure none of our store have any left in stock. I actually had to travel to a few to find the 2 I bought as they were sold out at all my surrounding stores a couple weeks ago.

One of my neighbors has this bin and they love it. Nice deal if you can get at a clearance price!

Some things just weren't meant to be made in stainless steel. A plastic bin for under $20 works just great. This is a typical Costco "premium" money-grab item that can be bested at your local Marshalls.

Thing is, consumers (us) aren't stoopid. We don't want to pay $100 for a dog food bin so we don't. Hence this is now 1/2 price. It's still meh!
okay, so go to your local Marshall's and buy something plastic then and spare us the unnecessary comment on consumer mentality. Premium items exist for a reason. Some people want things that look nice and aren't an eyesore in their kitchen/pantry. Also, stainless is extremely hygienic compared to plastic.

Sigraff is correct. In addition, manager's mark down is always $xx.00.

Of course the market is not exactly zero for something like this. There are obviously some people who think like you but not quite as many as Costco may have reckoned when they decided to stock this. And aesthetics aside, I don't buy your suggestion that stainless steel is more hygienic than plastic. Now if you could back that up with a research paper I might be swayed. hug

Good luck to y'all in other areas.

uh...Google? There's a reason hospitals and commercial kitchens all use stainless. it's because it is a nonporous material that does not allow particles to be absorbed into it.

ELI5 version: this is why plastic retains the smell, and sometimes color, of what was last in the container and stainless does not.

There are many types of plastic each with their own characteristics that govern their suitability for various purposes. There are plastics that are perfect for hygienically storing food.

FWIW, we originally had a plastic container for storing dog food and upgraded to this for a few reasons:

1. Our dogs liked to chew the edge of the plastic lid and ended up destroying the seal.

2. One of our dogs learned how to unlatch the plastic bin and help herself to the food. The latch on this thing is over-engineered and she's not likely to figure it out.

3. The largest plastic containers still didn't hold the complete contents of a large bag of large-breed dog food, so we had to store a 1/4 full bag somewhere until there was room to dump it into the plastic container. This one holds a full bag, no problem.

So totally worth the $50 for us. Tougher call at $100, but I was willing to pay that too.
