However, the 18" version has double the RPM and has much improved performance over the 16". If I were buying new today, I would opt for that model as I would consider that closer to "heavy duty".

I've only cut up maple tree limbs (used up two 5aH battery charges). And the chain seems dull already. Granted I've accidentally hit the soil/grass a few times, so that could be why also.
Seems like you've had some more experience with the chainsaw already. How long do you think the chain would stay sharp for?
As far as sharpening goes... I tried to do it 'by hand' before, and it felt like I only made it duller. Eventually I bought $20 jig that allows precise alignment of the file... I will not lie, it is a lot of work and really requires user to have OCD (luckily, I fall into that category), but end result was worth it - saw cut better then new - it really sent the chips flying. At least, for some time I think I used it a bit too much in dull state and probably overheated chain a bit, ruining steel tempering to some degree.
Take all my advise with a grain of salt, I am not a heavy user of chainsaw at all and just use it occasionally.
It's just swapping a battery so even quicker
If I were getting another and didn't want that kind, there's a manual type that clamps on the bar, would help get the angles better. I don't know if this is "good" or anything, might be overpriced, I saw it in an ad somewhere is the only reason I know about it. There are other types of course. https://www.treestuff.c
And the bench grinder type where you take the chain off works ok too the way it looks.
Mine is faster, and I've had luck all the years I've used it. I prefer something "quick", sometimes need to sharpen a number of times a day (last big project took a month, cutting cedars out of one of my barbwire fences, few hours most days, as I could). Hit the wire a handful of times.
I also use one of these, so the bar type or bench grinder type wouldn't really work for it anyway. https://www.drpower.com/Power-Equ...000014614

I was able to look at project's farm's video on this and I'll probably go with a hand model instead of the bench grinder setup.

TLDR - I like the new toy, it was well worth the wait
