I have this 16" version. I say it's good for anything below "heavy duty", which is one step below "commercial" in my book. That being said, that's all I'm comfortable with handling as well. I have cut up multiple small/medium trees in one charge (new chain), which is plenty for my uses.

However, the 18" version has double the RPM and has much improved performance over the 16". If I were buying new today, I would opt for that model as I would consider that closer to "heavy duty".
Chaps are safety pants used when running chainsaws. They have material in them that quickly binds a chain and chokes down a gas saw, usually before it gets to your leg. With an electric, the torque of the electric motor overcomes the binding which allows the chain to continue spinning ... right into your leg.

I have the 18" version. Used it a few times. Hmm... How long do you suppose chain sharpness lasts for?

I've only cut up maple tree limbs (used up two 5aH battery charges). And the chain seems dull already. Granted I've accidentally hit the soil/grass a few times, so that could be why also.

Seems like you've had some more experience with the chainsaw already. How long do you think the chain would stay sharp for?
Maple is hard, and getting chain dirty dulls it very quickly, but that still seems to be a bit fast. Make sure that oiler works (I have seen one report saying that oiler did not work because of the kink in a tubing) and that oil is not too thick... for some reason there seems to be no standard in chainsaw oils and some are pretty thick - I have some that works fine with my old manual pump oiler saw, but seems to be a bit too thick for newer/cheaper 'automatic pump oiler' type.

As far as sharpening goes... I tried to do it 'by hand' before, and it felt like I only made it duller. Eventually I bought $20 jig that allows precise alignment of the file... I will not lie, it is a lot of work and really requires user to have OCD (luckily, I fall into that category), but end result was worth it - saw cut better then new - it really sent the chips flying. At least, for some time Smilie I think I used it a bit too much in dull state and probably overheated chain a bit, ruining steel tempering to some degree.

Take all my advise with a grain of salt, I am not a heavy user of chainsaw at all and just use it occasionally.

Electric chainsaw, lol. No thanks. As much as I cut, I don't have time to charge a battery when I can fill the tank in less than 20 seconds.

It's just swapping a battery so even quicker

How long it stays sharp, depends. If you hit dirt, it's dull very quickly. If it's not throwing good chips, it needs sharpened. I have a small battery powered handheld sharpener, my hands don't work with a manual file, takes like a minute to touch up a chain. I'd say I touch up mine every tank of fuel if I'm not doing something ...rougher. Don't have a battery one, but look from time to time for some reason (my gas saws last for decades, with little maintenance and no issues, with tons of use).
I've been doing the hand filing for my chain and seems to be really miss since I am more or less a complete novice at it. Can you link the battery powered unit you use to sharpen?

It's like this. https://www.amazon.com/Oregon-575...B073GSGNLV Angles on the top, line it up. Files work, people get along. I'd suggest if you have issues, best to watch a video or two, several on youtube. Although, I've never watched one, probably don't do it right, but it works, chains last a long time.

If I were getting another and didn't want that kind, there's a manual type that clamps on the bar, would help get the angles better. I don't know if this is "good" or anything, might be overpriced, I saw it in an ad somewhere is the only reason I know about it. There are other types of course. https://www.treestuff.com/timberl...sharpener/

And the bench grinder type where you take the chain off works ok too the way it looks.

Mine is faster, and I've had luck all the years I've used it. I prefer something "quick", sometimes need to sharpen a number of times a day (last big project took a month, cutting cedars out of one of my barbwire fences, few hours most days, as I could). Hit the wire a handful of times.

I also use one of these, so the bar type or bench grinder type wouldn't really work for it anyway. https://www.drpower.com/Power-Equ...0000146144

Thanks for the response. My issue with the manual hand filing is that it's both slow and feels unreliable to me. I know how to line up the markers for the degrees and stuff but the chain doesnt feel like it's cutting like new.

I was able to look at project's farm's video on this and I'll probably go with a hand model instead of the bench grinder setup.

It definitely dulls faster than any gas saw I've had. Idk if it's due to it being a low profile chain or something with how the electric saw works. I normally have 3 sharpened chains at the beginning of the season and get them sharpened at the local hardware store over the winter. That's been plenty to last me.

Mine arrived today. Now I need to device if I really need it or if I should return it. It is a great price for a 5.0 battery but I am not sure I have a lot of need for a chainsaw. I do have some dead branches on a pear tree that need to come down, but I am not sure how much more I will use it after that.

Picked it up two days ago. One of the worst pick up experience I had but they gave me 30% of $200 back + tax. Technically paying $140 for this chain saw seems slick

Just picked mine up today, fantastic deal for the price! May I asked why your experience was bad? I had some complications with my delivery and had to go to the store twice and convince an employee to look for it. Apparently it was sitting in a truck or somewhere in the back of the store

I had mine shipped to the house and it actually came on Monday (in one business day or less), which was insanely quick. Tried it this weekend. Nice saw, cuts about as quick as my old corded pro-grade Makita, but without the cord and bar is larger, it does not have a nose guard, and it is a standard oregon bar, making replacements easy (no such thing as easy bar replacement on my Makita saw). As I thought, saw oiler chocked on a thick chain oil I picked up a decade ago in Home Depot, and lubrication was woefully inadequate. Adding a bit of mineral spirits rectified the issue and chain finally left a proper telltale oil drizzle line on nearby objects when held steady near something. Not thinning that oil would surely ruin that chain (and bar) in a short order. Somebody mentioned that saw is pretty unforgiving to mistakes and will throw a chain super-easily when in a bind. Totally true, happened to me within 10min of using the saw (never experienced thrown chain on that Makita chainsaw despite much of abuse). Oh well. Still, saw cuts well, battery lasts pretty long time (my stamina runs out before the battery... I am in a fairly bad shape this year, I know). Somebody else posted that saw does NOT leak oil when placed upside down... that seems to be true... hope that this will hold true over longer periods of time, because otherwise having to empty the oil reservoir (like manual demands) would be pretty annoying. Since saw is fairly quick, it is pretty noisy as well (almost as noisy as my old Makita) so I would recommend hearing protection, if you care about your hearing.

TLDR - I like the new toy, it was well worth the wait Smilie
