SD rule #1: Never call the store!!!
Got two. Were asked to donate for school supplies. Too shy to say no. Donated $5. Guess i am not a good SDer.
Saw 2 in stock in my area in NY, so I went to the store and they weren't on display. Went up to register and it seemed like the supervisor knew exactly the model and size I was looking for, and went to the back and retrieved it for me.

My guess is an employee is trying to keep it for themselves... but I left one for them

Is it because it's Staples? I think OfficeDepot/Max shows up a little different too.

Cool Deal OP!

What's a good use case for these? A boot drive for a PC? Or put in an old laptop to give it new life? I assume just using it for storage alone isn't very optimal due to the size.

Old PC or laptop as a OS drive. I replaced all my kids laptops with SSDs. They only surf the web and play online games. I do show some around me not sure if it's something to rush out for but definitely a great deal

For my friend, it is will be mainly an OS drive in a system used for powerpoint presentations and hardly anything more demanding than that.

My store says it has 4 in stock. Talked to the employees who said they couldn't find them and that they were "probably stolen". I'm guessing they're saving them in back to purchase themselves. Can't blame them, I guess.

EDIT: For what it's worth, it does seem like it's a Staples-wide (as opposed to store specific) deal. The brickseek inventory was accurate to what the Staples employee told me in-store, too, so it's worth checking out if you're close to a Staples.
